The principal work to be performed is the ever pop- ular "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff. Based on a 13th cen- tury Manuscript of poems in Latin and Bavarian German dialect, the selected lyrics include the freshness of medieval love lyrics, the exuberance of the drinking song, the zest of the sinner's confessions, the wild humour of the hymns to gambling and gluttony and the stoic litany to Lady Luck. Carl Orff, well known for the system he developed for training children in musical rhythms, reflects these |[ Chamber Choir performs at Music Hall rhythms in most of his compositions. The accompaniment for Carmina Burana is no excep- tion relying heavily on the percussion section. The high- ly accented choral rhythms produce music of powerful pagan sensuality and direct physical excitement. In this production the Chamber Choir will be accom- panied by two pianists and a percussion group. Soprano, tenor and baritone soloists will also be fea- tured. Included in the program are several madrigals and the amusing "Prayers from the Ark" by Ivor R. Davies. Tickets are available at Presents Presents Presents, Blue Heron Books and at the door. Adults are $12.50, seniors and students are $10 and children 12 and under are free. is hosting its second annual p.m." at fundraising concert on Fundraising concert at Christian School Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Port Perry. They will be followed by Port Perry residents Bev and Rob Foster with their family group, which includes their four children Aimee, Jeremy, Mark and Josee. The Foster's have performed at various com- munity and church events in the Scugog area and have just recently released a second CD of their origi- nal songs called "Things That Remain." This is a group that sings a variety of styles and will appeal to the entire family, young and old alike. Terry Posthumus, a Port Perry resident who has taught many local children guitar over the years and 'original who has recently produced a CD for Epsom resident Esther Bursey, has assem- 'bled a group of local musi- cians in a group that will perform several of Terry's contemporary gospel compositions as well as some familiar songs of the church. John Blair of Scugog Island has recently put together a group called Eklektek Journey and they will close out the evening. Their sound is upbeat with a hint of jazz and Chicago influence. The technical produc- tion will be by another for- mer well known local gui- tarist, Paul Chilco and "Audio Plus." All in all, it should be a great evening of music.
