VE -1QOS MEV), YAY? v6 - "WEEKEND STAR" HATE ama Iw Uncut grass, garbage unfair to residents, says Rosa St. homeowner By Chris Hall Weekend Star , Eighteen years after moving to his Rosa St. home, Rick Klock has finally had enough. Tired of what he says is the dilapidated condition of the Port Perry fair- grounds, he's finally decided to make his con- cerns public. "I've been here about 18 years now, and it's never really been that good, but I've never said The Star last week. He's referring to the state of the local fair- anything," Mr. Klock told grounds. Mr. Klock and his family reside at the north end of Rosa St, right next door to the exhibition buildings. He also points to garbage scattered across the fairgrounds, and a dead tree less than 10 feet from his driveway. "These things should be taken care of, so why aren't they? | live here and pay good taxes; this should be kept up," he said, adding that mem- bers of his family suffer from allergy problems, which are worsened by the thick grass. Port Perry Agriculture Society past-president Whitney Cohoon expressed sympathy for Mr. Klock and his family. Unkept fairgrounds a disgrace She noted that the Port Perry Fair Board, a subsidiary of the Ag Society, has hired a con- tractor to look after the grounds. The contract states that the grass at the fairgrounds must be kept between two and four inches, said Mrs. Cohoon. "The ball diamonds are kept a little shorter than that because the area back by the build- ings isn't used as much," she said. "Because the grass is to be kept between two and four inches, they don't have to be in there every week, but we have to keep the whole place looking good or no. one will want to use the fair- FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2001 EE he - {YI 15 "® » 3 4 5 { : Ly ; ' tr : 3 \ i i 53 .
