SII AA ha TUM NN 10 FS gt 1S TA St Nr - FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, 2001 - 21 Uxbridge Swim Club members attend meet in Winnipeg Swimmers make a splash at national competition Eleven USC members flew to Winnipeg recently for the Youth and Junior National Competition, at which there were almost 600 swimmers from 89 swim clubs across Canada. This level of competition is just one below the Nationals which .is the highest level of amateur swimming competition in Canada. Swimmers must have very fast time standards in order to qualify for this high-level meet. Seven of the eleven - USC swimmers qualified for either the Finals or the Consolations in several events. Scott Briggs won two medals for his efforts - a Silver in the 50 metre Freestyle and a Bronze in the 100 metre Free. This means that Scott is the second fastest amateur swimmer in the 50 Free event in Canada - and that is no small feat! Individual results are as follows: Scott Briggs (19): 50 FR - 2nd; 100 FR - 3rd; 50 BK - 6th; Marcia Bryon (18): 400 IM - 6th; Matt DelMastro (18): 100 Fly - 4th; 50 FLY - 5th; Lauren Dorrington (15): 200 IM - 11th; Braedon Sharp (18): 100 BK - 5th; 200 BK - 8th; Ashleigh' Thomas (17):100 BK - 6th; 50 BK - 13th; Dan Tracy (18): 100 BR - 8th; 200 BR - 16th. The Redmen were up two games to none after wins of 12-8 at home to start the series and 11-9 on the road on Saturday. Brooklin won the open- ing draw and took off down the floor and, with a mere eight seconds off the clock, Cam Woods welcomed the Athletics to IPA with a goal. Steve Toll added another just a minute later and by the 5:50 mark of the open- ing frame the Redmen were up to a comfortable 4-0 lead. Jody Holbrough did score for the visitors to draw closer at 4-1 but Kelly Sullivan added one for the Redmen before the end of the first and Brooklin took a 5 PCR PIZZA, SUBS > SWINGS 5-1 lead to the break. The Redmen got a goal from Brad MacArthur at 13:16 of the second, which made the game 7-1 and forced the Athletics to put in back-up goalie Corey Quinn. That strategy would not work on this night as the Redmen welcomed Quinn to the game with a goal less than a minute later off the stick of Nick Trudeau.
