During Monday night's meeting of #% the local school board, Scugog ~~ Trustée Martin Demmers put forward "a bylaw that would have solidified a 'motion passed earlier to have board finance officers report to trustees four times a year on the exact status of the board's budget. The move would have required the hiring of two budget analysts for the task of keeping a detailed track on spending. ~ Ron Trbovich, the Durham board's Superintendent for Finance, said that while the plan was a good one, the hold up is finding the funding for the idea. Currently, trustees receive updates on spending. They want a more detailed accounting that Director of Education Grant Yeo said may have to wait for October. "We do not want to hire two staff people and then have to tell them two months later, 'we are sorry but we have to let you go'," Mr. Yeo told trustees. "That is not right and not fair. We want to wait until October when a clearer picture of our funding position is in place" Mr. Demmers, while upset that the bylaw was on hold, agreed to wait. But he is not sure what choice he would make if it comes to class funds or more finance reports. "I think our staff will have to do some juggling," Mr. Demmers said. "Because we need the information. Obviously I would sooner have (edu- cational assistants) but at the same time | want to be able to press a but- ton and we have a report." Director Yeo told trustees a more detailed picture of how the board will continue its "on budget" financing will be available at the full board meeting in October.
