"WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2001 - § Fire department prepares for ext + ariat Rn y - Fr ---- EAT ITE el Pt SD Northwood Ranch event for Jennifer Ashleigh Foundation Northwood Animal Ranch is planning a fun- filled event for a very worthwhile cause on Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9 to benefit The Jennifer Ashleigh Foundation. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and run to 5 p.m. each day. - There will be face painting, a silent auction and food available with proceeds going to The Jennifer Ashleigh Foundation. Northwood Ranch has been in operation for seven years and is locat- ed in Seagrave on 60 acres of land with a capti- vating view of the beauti- ful countryside. There are approximately 180 ani- mals including Ben, the | famous bear who has stared in numerous com- mercials and movies. The Jennifer Ashleigh Foundation was started in 1990 by the owner of National Sports Centre stores, Norman Clements. Jennifer was his grand- daughter, born in 1989, who lived to be only six- months-old before dying of Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Since 1990, the foun- dation has been assisting chronically and seriously ill children and their fam- ilies with special treat- ment needs, medical expenses and financial assistance in times of need.
