Lawn mower races are going to be very hot items at the Blackstock Fairgrounds on Sept. 29. No.we don't mean for you to oil the wheels and get your wife a new pair of run- ning shoes, we are talking about your riding mower. Pilons and hay bales will be set up in an oval for these races. Hang on tight but don't change anything on your mower. These are stock races, no souping up allowed. Waivers of liabili- ty must be signed and we want sober drivers only. As for the ATVs there will be straight line racing only. All wheels must stay on the ground during the race but it should be great fun. Along with the races there will, of course, be the regular Chili contest. Clubs, churches and other groups will enter as a team to see who has the best darn Chili in Cartwright Township. It will be hard to beat our lineup of talent. We are blessed with very talented strummers and pickers, crooners and singers. It is hard to believe that many of these people did not choose to become profes- sional singers. The Klick 'n ~ Tyme cloggers will be here too. These local shoe slam- mers will get your toes tap- ping. There will be great door and lucky draw prizes including theatre tickets, Leaf tickets, Raptor tickets, a TV/VCR combo plus lots of other great items. The Giant Pumpkin con- test will be held at 4 p.m. There are some great rival- ries and we expect to see some monster pumpkins in spite of our dry year Pumpkin carving and painting will also be a part of the day for the kids. There will be lots to do for the kids as well as the adults including Trudalu's Jumping Castle. Horseshoes and Volleyball tournamefits will also take place so tune up your irons and blow up those balls. The Cartwright Fields project will benefit from this event. Cartwright Fields - "more than sports" are located on Hwy. 7A at Nestleton. A large amount of money needs to be raised to turn them into a reality. Included in the price of the ticket is din- ner, entertainment, the lawn mower/ATV races and many door prizes. Adults cost $20 advance or $25 at the door, Kids three to 12 are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. For further infor- mation call Fred Ford at 905-986-0352. OPPERS A.
