This outstanding musical event takes place at the Glenn Crombie Theatre on the Lindsay campus of Sir Sandord Fleming College at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. La Pieta is a string ensemble consisting of 12 of the best women musi- cians in Canada. Founded by Angele Dubeau in 1997, this young group was rec- ognized from the start for its precision of attack, energy and ensemble playing. The group has performed in some of Canada's most prestigious venues and has broadcast extensively on both French and English TV and radio networks. This wide exposure has gained the group very many enthusi- astic and appreciative lis- teners in Canada and the U.S.A. The Toronto Star refers to the group's "rhythmic vigour" and "warm-hearted and confi- dent sound," while the Los Angeles Times mentions their agility and "fierce joy in the doing." Founder and leader Angele Dubeau has been praised by critics through- out the world for her exceptional talent, warm tone and strong musical 'personality. Also success- ful as a recording artist, she is one of the rare Canadian soloists to have certified Gold for 50,000" albums sold in one year. Her exceptional contribu- tions to classical music have been recognized by membership in the Order of Canada and by the award of the Lavallee prize. This is sure to be a musical evening to remember. NEW ARTIST ON DISPLAY: A special reception was held on Oct. 20 for local paper mache artist Jennifer Hardie at the Kent Farndale Gallery at the Scugog Memorial Public Library to mark the open- ing of her "Uncharted Moments" display. There will be elght shows over two weekends on Nov. 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, Dec. 1 and 2. The Sunday performances are matinees beginning at 2:00pm and the evening show time Is 8:00pm.
