1 22 - "WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2001 MoJacks undefeated By John B. McClelland Weekend Star The Port Perry MoJacks ran their undefeated streak to four games Monday = night in Bobcaygeon where they downed the Bullets by a score of 7-5. It may not have been the prettiest exhibition of hockey by the green and white in this still young season, but the team will gladly take the two points to stay ahead of Lakefield for second place in the Central Ontario Jr. C standings. for this one for various reasons, and it was their second game in 24 hours after a tough 4-3 victory over the Georgina Ice Sunday night at the Scugog Arena. * The score probably- should have been higher as the MoJacks doubled the Bullets in the shots- on-goal column -- 56 to 28. Because of the deplet- ed line-up, the club called up Port Perry native Chet Martin from the Lindsay AAA Wolves. And the first-year Midget The MojJacks were gj owed why he is playing missing several players AAA hockey this season TOWNSHIP OF SCUGOG Scugog. Head coach Neil Evans praised the hockey skills of Martin and said he won't hesitate to call on the youngster again to fill in this season, when necessary. "He's a fine passer and goal scorer, a real finesse- type of player," said the head coach. Other Port Perry marksmen were Ryan McQuade, Shawn Curran, Callum Marshall, Justin Bennett, Andrew Mercer and Nathan Cotter. Matt Balser went the distance in the cage for the MoJacks to record the vic- tory. Perhaps feeling the affects of Sunday's match with the Ice, the MoJacks got off to a very sluggish start and were actually outshot by the Bullets in in four with 7-5 win over Bullets the first period. But, as they have done on sever- al occasions this season, the players seemed to find their skating legs in the second frame and slowly wrestled control of the game from the home- town team. However, the status of team captain Adam Jones was unclear as of Tuesday morning. He suffered what appeared to be a neck or back injury near the end of the game when he was wrenched to the ice by a Bobcaygeon player. Jones, in his first outing after a one-game suspension, went to the players' bench under his own steam but began to develop pain at the con- clusion of the game. He was taken to the local hospital when the team returned to Port Perry. Coach Evans said Tuesday morning he does not know just how Understanding Your Lake Community Workshop for Anyone Concerned about Lake Scugog Wednesday, November 14, 2001 7:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Latcham Centre 121 Queen Street, Port Perry 6:30 p.m. - Displays & Complimentary Refreshments Scientists and Citizens agree that the loss of healthy shorelines and declining water quality are two of the critical problems Sacing the Lake Scugog watershed and its residents. SLAPSHOTS: The win gives the MoJacks 17 points (in 13 games), three up on the Lakefield Chiefs and sole posses- sion of second place. The Chiefs could close to within one point as they were to meet Little Britain Tuesday evening in Lakefield. And, the Mojacks . are edging towards the first-place Uxbridge Bruins who lead the six-team Central C loop with 21 points. That makes this Friday night's game between the MoJacks and Bruins one of those proverbial "four-pointers." And to add to the intensity, the teams are still smarting over a bitterly-contested 4-4 tie Oct. 28 in Port Perry. For MoJack fans who may want to take in the match at the Uxbridge Arena, the face- off is at 7:45 p.m. And this Sunday night at the Scugog Arena, the MoJacks host their tradi- tional rivals from the north end of the lake. The faceoff with the Little Britain Merchants is at 7 p.m. Not only are the MoJacks playing winning hockey this season, they are a highly entertaining group for the fans. The team has no shortage of speed and scoring punch on the forward lines, and two fine Junior C netmin- ders in Garett MacKinnon and Matt Balser. This entertaining style of play, plus the fact the team is putting Ws in the book, is starting to bring Junior C fans back to the Scugog Arena.
