"WEEKEND STAR" FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2001 - 3 It's due to high number of responses Fire budget expected to run over by $80,000 Scugog Council reviewed the township's corporate financial statement Monday and learned that the total operating budget for the Scugog Fire Department is expected to be over budget by about $80,000 this year. The large deficit is primarily due to payroll expenses which have been incurred by the large number of calls the local department has responded to over the past year. Finance Chair Marilyn Pearce said that while the deficit is a concern, nothing can be done. The fire department's Emergency Response - Comparison with last year shows the number of calls are up in'most areas. "The fire department is drawing the deficit right now, but there is no blame here. It's just fact of life," Councillor Pearce said, referring to the number of responses the local fire department has been called out to this past year.
