Hvidsten, Editor Port Perry Star, Port Perry, Ont. Dear Sir: It has only just come to my attention that your paper carried a report of the Lions Snowmobile races, in which you stated that "when St. John Ambulance didn't show up for the races, members of the Port Perry Fire Depart- ment stood by in the event of emergencies". Our Brigade Superintend- ant informs me that he had a eall concerning this even well in advance, but with de- finite information as to date,/ time and place. He asked that this information be giv- en him and received the pro- mise it would be. However, he states the man who first called him had a death in the family, and quite under- standably failed to follow through. On Friday, before the Sunday of the races, he was called, but unfortunate- ly he then had another com- mittment for Sunday and _| could not attend. We have only recently ac- quired our machine and had no-one else trained suffici- ently to send out. We would, therefore, much appreciate it if you could publish this explanation. St. John is proud of its record in keeping commitments. We would not want any Port Perry organization to feel that we would deliberately or carelessly fail to honor any|- charge of the programme.
