Two of : the high school faculty hasre wtBtnal their signed contracts, wMl* tte taard is still awaiting the decision at the I others to whom contracts have been | tendered. In order to discourage the I contract jumping, the two boards this spring have had their contracts drawn up to read for a full year's work iastead of the forty'week teaching term. This means that the teachers who | complete the full school term will be paid for twelve months' work. The clause not only protects the school board to a certain extent, but is offered as a special inducement to the teachers to teach a full term, While 'some of the teachers believe the clause to be all right, others do not look at' ft in the same favorable manner. ERICKSON WEST McHENRY, ILL. jfej--"'; The real measure of damage due to poor telephone service is in loss of time or in the personal inconvenience caused. Speed is a relative term that depends upon ; what one is used to rather than upon what one actually requires or that one may have been led to expect. In telephone practice high speed is taken for 1 granted; if telephone calls had never been answered by the operator in less than thirty or forty seconds, it would still be not only the quickest service in the world but it would seem the quickest. Moreover, the time consumed would be less than that required to complete any other operation in the business or domestic routine. The remarkably fast service the telephone companies have created and maintained so Steadily has made fifteen and twenty seconds seem a long time -- but only as regards telephone service.
