JOHN STOFFEL Outplaying the leeal **fftt in every department of the game and giving slab win very creditable support, the Johnsburg team triumphed over McHenry at the local ball yard last Sunday afternoon, and this, too, after, our boys had gained a lead in the fifth inning which looked big enough to win any Ball game. However, the victors are worthy of all the glory that usually accompanies victory aifc a mor$ jubilant ball club as well as its folldwers never left a local field. McHenry hasn't Ian alibi to offer. After the fourth inning Rossman, the local slahman, had nothing with which to fool the opposing batsmen, while his team mates put up k most miserable defense, especially so in the tight 'pinches, and, while the official scorer overlooked a number of^the bad plays, nine large, conspicuous errors could not have possibly been kept from the tabulated score. All told, Johnsburg touched op the local man for a total of eighteen hits, which, together with nine errors, netted the visitors ten runs. Frank Freund, for the visitors, pitched a steady game and it wasnt until the fourth inning that McHenry could get anything that looked like a hit. In this inning Warner succeeded in bounding an infield hit over Freund's dome that went for a single. Rossman, like his worthy opponent, also went along in great shape for four innings, during which time only two hits were gleaned off his delivery. One of these came in the first inhing, a single by J. Thelen, while Frett laced a pretty grounder just oat of reach of A. Meyers in the second round. While it isn't our desire to again agonize local fandom by "playing it over," Johnsburg and the fans up there will, no doubt, enjoy it, so here goes: First inning: A. Thelen flew to Rossman. jCing fanned. J. Thelen singled to center and stole second. J. Nell struck out. One hit, no runs. McHenry: Michels out, Freund to Freund. Knox out, A. Thelen to Freund. Meyers rolled to Freund. No hits, no runs. Second inning: Adams fanned. Frett singled past short, stole second and went to third when Fred Freund's grounder slipped thru S. Meyers. H. Nell struck out;. Frank Freund out Conway.to A. Meyers. One hit, no runs. « McHenry: Warner out, Freund to Freund. Smith out, A. Thelen to Freung. Conway fanned. No hits, no runs. Third inning: A. Thelen and King both fanned. J. Thelen was safe on Coway's error and stole second. ' J. Nell struck out. No hits, no runs. McHenry: A. Meyers fanned. Bolger was given life on King's error and stole second. Rossman sacrificed, King to Freund, Bolger going to third. [Michels flied to King. No hits, no runs. Fourth inning: Adams struck out. Warner and A. Meyers disposed of Frett, while Conway and A. Meyers took care of Fred Freund. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Knox skied to Frett in right field, the latter going down on his knees to accept the drive. S. Meyers fanned. Warner singled over the pitcher's head and was forced at second when Smith grounded to J. Nell at short. One hit, no runs. Fifth inning: H. Nell out, Rossman to A. Meyers. Frank Freund dropped a single over short and was caught stealing second. A. Thelen singled past third and went on to second when Smith in left field fumbled the ball. Thelen then rode home on King's single between first and second. King took second on the throw to the plate to catch A. Thelen. J. Thelen doubled over first, the hit scoring King. J. j Thelen took third when Warner let one of Rossman's fast ones get away .from him. J. Nell fanned. Three hit^ two runs. McHenry: Conway smashfd a three ply hit to left. A. Meyers out, Freund to Freund. Bolger popped to King. Rossman sent a long fly right into the awaiting hands of H. Nell in left. The ball dropped from the fielder's mitt and Conway scampered home with our first run of the day. Rossman went all the way to the key stone sack on the error. Michels was hit by a pitched ball and scored on Knox's double over short. S. Meyers walked and both runners crossed the counting station on Waftier's double to left center. Warner then rode home on Smith's single to center. Smith stole second, while Conway was fanning. Four hits, six runs. Sixth inning: Adams fanned. Frett singled to center and took second on Fred Freund's single to third. Michels Was lucky enough to knock down the blow, but could not recover the ball in time to get his man .at first or second, thus same goes for a scratch hit. Both of the base runners advanced a peg on a wild pitch. H. Nell's single to center scored Frett, while Fred Freund also registered when Bolger seemed to close his eyes and let go of the ball. To whom he was trying to deliver the ball none seemed to know. Nell was forced at' second when' Frank Freund grounded to Rossman. A. Thelen singled to left. Frank Freund was caught when he tried to make third on the hit. Four hits, two runs. I McHenry: A. Meyers doubted to UlURSDAY.
