McHENRY GARAGE* J. W. SCHAFFER, PROP. • % •trlhe WM€ Next the annual ITsHrtock. 16 tery a#Msmt is large delegation. The heavy rain of last Thursday had •wry little effeet on our road oil. It frss feared by many that audi of the VI weald he washed annqr, but fortunately was not tihe ease. Harry Romine and his gang of workmen have resumed work on the big litch south of town and he is hoping that the work will now go on uninterruptedly until the job is completed. Last Sundty Father Harney essducted the late services at St Mary's chttrch. He gave a brilliant sermon, while St Mary's choir sang, assisted by two Paultet Choristers and Mrs. Charles Pick. McHenry And this entire locaRty was visited by the season's heaviest rain storm last Thursday afternoon. The rain was accompanied by hall, which in some sections is said to have done slight damage. Altho the matter came up for discussion at the last regular meeting of the local council Knights of Columbus, held at their hall last Thursday evening, the date for the holding of their annuar picnic was not decided. The home bakery s^le, conducted at the village hall last Saturday by Fox River Valley camp, R. $. A., was a success. Every article of bakery was disposed of and as 4 result a neat sum will be added to the treasury of the camp. Ten Evanston Boy Senate, enroate for Wisconsin, where they are now in camp, stopped in McHenry a short time Tuesday morning. They were traveling in a Ford truck, which alio carried their camping outfit and equipment. It is important that women be properly corseted. The corset must be comfortable, healthful, durable and stylish. Spirella meets all of these demands. Private demonstration upon request Ma belle Wheeler, Corsetiere. Phone 56-J. The Ladies' Aid society of the M. E. church will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 1, instead of next Thursday. The meeting will be held at the country home of Mrs. S. S. Rogers and all members are kindly asked to be present Philip Huffman of Terra Cotta was the purchaser of the old HUJMMUEI farm, situated near that place in Nunda township, and which was sold at public auction recently. Everett .Hunter, Jr. > I Anyone having any surplus furniture, suitable for club room purposes, would grant the members of the McHenry peet of the American Legion a great favor, by donating same to the iboys for their club room in the base- |ment of the Stoffel building. We'are sure that the war vets will appreciate all favors extended along this line. The Plaindester on Tuesday morning of this week received a souvenir post card which was mailed us by Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hfenler, who are now touring the West by auto. The card was mailed at Yellowstone National park last Saturday and bore the following message: "Greetings from Yellowstone park. We ar* going on to the coast." Simon Stoffel, local insurance agent and dealer in real estate, is now nicely quartered in his new office, recently purchased of Frank Justen. Since coming into ownership of the office building many improvements have been made thereon, until now it represents one of the neatest and best arranged quarters of the kind tar be found in any small city or town. The heavy rains of last Thursday afternoon washed a large gully along the west side of Green street between the Pries building and the old mill race. The damage was repaired the following day. The tile on that side of the street isn't of sufficient size to take care of such a flow of water and until larger drains are instituted the village may expect just such damage after each storm in the future. The Paulist Choristers left their summer home at Pistakee Bay Men day. Only a few boys and their relatives are lingering at the resort, while extensive improvements are being undertaken to complete the accommo dations. Father Harney and his crew of helpers are bent upon making the camp the greatest place for out-door life the boy* and their friends ever had. I The musical comedy, "A Girl," was presented at the Empire theatre to a fair sised audience last Sunday night. Like all other shows of the kind, there were plenty of musical numbers, but McHenry audiences have oftimes listened to better vocalists than appeared trail tkis particular company. The victors of Sunday's contest did not win because of any brilliant playing or free hitting. Nay, nay, far be it from such. Extreme generosity once more overcame the home outfit and consequently the game was pre* sen ted to the visitors. Rossman, who occupied the mound for McHenry, pitched a good game of ball and was deserving of better support than was accorded him by his team mates. Not only were the men behind him inclined to drop iiy balls, but wild throws on plays that should have been easy pntouts also contributed to the error column to such an extent that a score keeper, had one been present would have found it quite a difficult task to keep an accurate record of same. Eleven to seven was the fitwl count of the game and, according to eye witnesses, at least six of the tallies registered by the opposing team were donations and should never have been scored. Owing to the fact that the score keeper was not present at Sunday's game th# box score is not printed this week: Gaardian's Sale Alford H.
