Last Sunday's game, was a repetition of the one played two weeks ago, the Grand Billiard team of Waukegan coming up from behind and taking away the afternoon's honors during the first half of the ninth inning. While McHenry's errors were more or less responsible for our defeat, Nelson's weakening also contributed towards oar downfall. For six innings Nelson pitched a whale of a game, but with the beginning of the seventh he showed signs of weakening. In the following two innings he possessed little or nothing with which to fool the enemy, while miserable support at the most critical moments didn't help him any. Up until the fifth inning only one hit wasobtained by the invaders, this being credited to Byrd, who singled over the third base sack. Nine hits were registered by the Waukegan batsmen daring the last three innings, which, together with four errors and Nelson's wildness, netted the visitors eight runs, more than enough to win. Chudick occupied the hill for the visitors during the first six rounds and with the aid of gilt edged support he was able to hold the McHenry sluggers to four tallies, altho nicked for nine hits. Ramsey, who took up the role in the seventh round, got off to a bad start when he hit the first man that faced him. However, the kind of support that wins big league ball games kept him out of serious trouble in the seventh. In the eighth he was going like a house afire, striking out the three batsmen who faced him in this round. A fast double play in the ninth again saved him from a whole lot of unpleasantness. The story by innings: First inning: Gall and* Price were both thrown out by Nelson. Smith walked. Oren bounced a fast one down past first, which M. Meyers speared in time to get the ball to Nelson for the put-out. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Knox laced a two ply smash* into left. Starek thought that he could catch the fleet footed "Bobby" at the key stone sack and in his endeavor to do so the ball shot past the beg and into right field, Knox scoring on the error. Rossman fouled to Smith. G. Meyers was hit and took first. M. Meyers skied to Oren. One hit, one run. Second inning: Starek and Chudick both fanned. Byrd was issued a pass, stole second and went on to third when Mead's throw got away from Meyers. Waite walked and stole second. With men on second and third Heath struck out. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Buss and Winkel both met their fate Via Oren and Gall. Bolger laced a three ply smash into right and then wa s nailed at the plate when he attempted to stretch the hit into a home run. One hit, no runs. Third inning: Gall fanned. Price went all the way to third when Bolger lost his fly to center. Winkel mussed up Smith's grounder, the error scoring Price and gave the batter life at first. Oren was thrown out by G. Meyers and Ramsey, who had replaced Starek in left, struck out. No hits, one run. McHenry: Mead shot * single over second and rode home on Nelson's four ply smash into right. Knox skied to Heath in right. Rossman and G. Meyers both were thrown out by Byrd. Two hits, two runs. Fourth inning: Chudick and Byrd both fanned and Waite lifted to Bolger in center. No hits, no runs. McHenry: M. Meyers sent a three bagger into right and rode home on Buss' single in the same direction. Winkel hit into a fast doable play when he rolled to Oren, who tossed to Waite and the latter in turn to Gall at first A speedy play. Bolger rolled to Gall. Two hits, one run.. Fifth inning: Heath and Gall fanned. Price singled over the third base bag. Smith struck out. One hit, no ryns. McHenry: Mead was thrown cflit by Waite. Nelson almost took Chodick's pins from beneath him with a nasty single thru the pitcher's box. Knox hit into what would have proven another lightning double when he rolled to Oren. Oren tossed to Waite. Nelson interferred with Waite's throw to first and as a result both runners were waived out. No hits, no runs. Sixth inning: Oren, Ramsey and Chudick all went out via the strikeout route. No hits, no runs. McHenry: Rossman laced a single thru short and went to second on G. Meyers' single to right. M. Meyers started another fast double play for the visitors when he rolled to Waite, the play being completed by Oren and Call. Heath made a splendid running catch of Buss' hard drive to right. Two hits, no runs. Seventh inning: Byrd tapped down the third base line. Rossman waited to see the pill roll foal, but was disappointed, the tap going for a hit. Byrd was caught stealing. Waite singled to right. Heath struck out and Gall was thrown Two hits, no runs. McHenry: Ramsay now pitching for Waukegan. Chudick playing left field. Winkel was hit by a pitched ball and took first. Bolger singled to center. Both runners advanced a notch on a passed ball McHENRVS 4 BOMEOTJURBEKNT , 1, • ,1 THUft.. FRIQA* * SATURDAY JUNE 29 A 30.JUUY J: SUNDAY. Nelson shot a vicious liner into short center, which Price gathered in after a hard run. 'Both Winkel and Bolger were on their way home when the catch was made, thus making it easy to double the latter at second. It was one of the best catches of a hard drive seen here this season. One hit, no runs. Eighth inning: Price singled to center and went to third on Smith's single over second. Smith stole second and both runners scored whert G. Meyers allowed Oren's boun&er to get away from him. Buss„4n right also muddled up the hit with the result that Oren was resting on second by the time the ball had again reached the infield. Ramsey almost tore Bolger's glove from his hand with a ripping three base hit to center, Oren scoring. Chudick and Byrd both fanned and Waite lifted to Nelson. Three hits, three runs. McHenry; Knox, Rossman and G. Meyers all struck out No hits, no runs. Ninth inning: Heath singled to left, stole second and went to third on an overthrow. Gall fanned. Price took first after being hit by a pitched ball. Price stitfe second. Heath scored and Price went to third when G. Meyers missed Smith's grounder. Price and Smith scored on Oren's triple to center. Oren scored on Ramsey's single past second. He took second on the' thrown in. Mead made a poor peg to third in his attempt to catch Ramsey stealing, the error allowing the runner to score. Chudick skied to Bolger. Byrd singled to right and Waite was thrown out by Rossman. Four hits, five runs. McHenry: M: Meyers walked, stole second while Buss was striking out and came home on Winkel's single to center. Bolger forced Winkel at second when he hit to Waite. Bolger was then forced at second when Mead hit to Oxen, the latter tossing to Waite for tike final put-out, One hit, one run. The tabulated scon: Grand Billiards R. H. PQ,.A. S. Gall, lstfc,.
