The visitors came to McHenry for the express purpose of showing up the home club, but sad to relate, the invaders were forced to return home with everything except the fulfillment of their expectations. A number of the Wauconda fans saw Libertyville hand the McHenry outfit a one-sided lacing at the Libertyville fair grounds on July 4. What proved easy picking for Libertyville should also be "duck soup" for Wauconda, so thought the backers of the Lake county team. Evidently, however, there must have been some one that did give McHenry credit of possessing a fairly good ball club as the Wauconda team came to our town very well "loaded." So confident were the Wauconda fans that their team would win that a number came over with their entire week's earnings, which they were willing to post on their favorites. Yes, one lad put up his entire week's earnings, sixteen honest-to-goodness "smackers." ' To the better's disappointment the local gang behaved themselves tfs a good amateur club should and as a natural consequence they put up a real game instead* of a farce-like matinee as staged at Libertyville.
