IOUNCIL PROCEEDING# CITY ALDERMEN HOLD BUSY SESSIONS DEC, 22 AND JAN. 7 ' Council Room, Dec. 22, 1923. The city aldermen met in a continued meeting for the purpose of dividing the city into wards with Mayor Wells presiding. Aldermen present: Doherty, Knox, Krause, Overton and Wattles. Absent: Stoifel. Motion by Doherty, seconded % Overton, that the city of McHenry be divided into three .wards, namely^ Hards No, 1, 2 and 3. Motion by Doherty, seconded by Overton, that the treasurer's, collector's and clerk's reports be accepted as read. Motion carried. Motion by Stoffel, seconded by Wattles, that the bills be accepted as O. K.'d by the finance committee. Motion carried. Motion by Knox, seconded by Overton, that the mayor be authorized to have Mr. Tryon to survey the city of McHenry and give official description df the wards for the city at once. Motion carried. ^ Motion by Knox, seconded by Krause, that the city attorney be instructed to take the matter up of the light at the Chicago & Northwestern depot. Motion carried. Motion by Knox, seconded by Krause, that the property owners on Center street south of John street be given permission to lay water pipes four inches in diameter and two hydrants to be under the supervision of waterworks according to city plans and specifications. Motion carried. Motion by Krause, seconded by Doherty, that the city of McHenry agree to pay the property owners south of John street on Center street the sum of $545, this sum applies to the frontage the city owns on Center street and also two hydrants. ADDITIONAL EXCHANGE The bus line between Elgin and Woodstock is again in operation. - Of 1879 cattle in ninety-five herds tested in Lake county 453 were found to be afflicted with tuberculosis. during the year 1924 and that fhe company will spend $500,000 more next year in completing the work. After holding their church services in the town hall for six weeks, members of the Methodist church at Hebron are again enjoying the use of same, which has been moved back and turned around to make room for a new structure to be erected the coming spring. The Aetna Gravel company of Algonquin is planning on increased .production during the coming;, year. Last year the company shipped out 10,000 carloads of sand and gravel and, according to present plans, the concern hopes to make it 12,000 cars this year. Work on a new two-story business block to occupy the site of the old Masonic Temple block on Spring street, Elgin, is to start some time this month. The building will be erected at a cost of $75,000 by the Elgin Loan & Homestead association and will be occupied, when completed, by that association. Mrs. Julia Schumacher of Woodstock has filed a bill for divorce against Charles Schumacher, charging desertion. The couple, for a while, resided west of this city. Senator Rodney B. Swift of the eighth senatorial district, comprising the counties of McHenry, Lake and Boone, has announced that he will seek re-election to that office next year. The summer home of H.P. Adams of Oak Park, located at Lake Marie, was ransacked by thieves recently, who escaped with a radio set and boat motor, the combined value of which was given as $250. The Women's Improvement club of Crystal Lake was recently given $500 by Edward D. Pomeroy, who made the gift in memory of his mother and with the understanding that same was to go into the permanent building fund. [Fred J. Senator Granger went to Springfield on Monday morning to be on hand at the opening of the state legislature. Robert Sutton and wife, who live southeast of this village, celebrated their silver wedding on December 26. The congregation of St. Mary's church in this village has decided to hold their fair from Feb. 5 to 18 at their new church. j One hundred and forty-iour couples Intended the New Year's party at Stoffel's hall on Friday evening and all report a pleasant time. The passenger train which passes this station going south in the afternoon leaves five minutes earlier than heretofore, going south at 3:20. William Doherty passed away at Big Creek, Minn., on Dec. 24, 1898. He was a son of Michael Doherty of this village. He was forty-four years of age. A. L. Howe has commenced the erection of a new ice house near-his residence up the river. He will build one large efiough to supply every family in town. The shoot, \ which took place here on Monday, was well attended and in the live bird shoot L. H. Owen of this village took first prize, killing twentythree birds out of a possible twentyfive. The Royal Neighbor camp of Spring Grove received twenty-two new members in their camp last Thursday night. The work of initiation was splendidly performed by the Antioch team.
