McHENRY ICE CREAM COMPANY fcc fa,., ia.:,: LOCMOSfOPHfll HOME TEAM DROPS CONTEST ON IcOOlINT OF ERRORS AURORA WINS OUT BY A SCORE OF 8 TO 6, MAKING ALL HER RUNS IN FIFTH Before the largest opening day crowd that has ever gathered at the local ball park, Aurora last Sunday afternoon triumphed over the home crew by a score of 8 to 6. \, All of the visitors' scores came in the fifth inning, after the first two men up were given life on infield taps which ordinarily would have been easy outs. These two plays seemed to have their telling effect upon Davison and before this good, old port sider was able to stem the tide, eight of the en emy had crossed the counting station. McHenry made enough hits to win two ball games but about the only thing that they were able to bunch was errors and therefore this sad story of defeat. However, since this was the opening game of the season coupled with the fact that McHenry's infield failed to measure up with that of last year, we are willing to overlook the team's short comings by saying that for an opening contest the fans should be sat* isfied. "Joey" Gross, who last season took care of the hot corner, was among those not present. Kosier, who cavorts around left field and always does a good job of it, was assigned to the third base job and considering that he is not an infielder, he didn't do so bad. Kern, who won the admiration of local fans by his excellent work around the keystone sack last season, was moved over to the short field while Carroll was on second and Rossiter, last year with Cary, at the initial sack. Walczak and Bailey were missed, to say the least. Aurora, with one or two exceptions, presented the same front as last season. Denny, a little port sider, took the hill and went five innings after •which Voight took up the mound duty and went the balance of the way. Of the two Denny looked the better. The game by innings: FIRST INNING: Lee was thrown out by Davison. Croake sent a single thru short and was- caught stealing. Gross made a beautiful one handed stab of Givens' poke, to short right. One hit, no runs. McHENRY: Kosier drew a walk. Ehnert struck out. Carroll singled to right. Kosier stopped at second. Kern and Repas both went out via the strike out route. One hit, no runs. SECOND INNING: Roth lifted to Repas in center/ Durant and Gargle both fanned. No hits, no runs. McHENRY: Rossiter out, Gargle to Croake. Rogers walked and then met his fate in a lightning double killing when Kingsley rolled to Wright. The double was completed via Gargle and Croake. No hits, no runs. THIRD INNING: Wyatt was thrown out by Davison. Wright met his fate via Kosier and Rossiter and Denny struck out. No hits, no runs. McHENRY: Davison shot a threeply smash along the right field foul line but his mates were unable to help him across the plate for the much desired tally. Kosier lifted to Wyatt in center. Ehnert popped to Wright and Carroll was thrown oat by Gargle. One hit, no rums. FOURTH INNING: Lee beat out a hit to Carroll and then was caught stealing. Croake struck out and Givens was whipped out by Davison. One hit, no runs. McHENRY: Kern out, Gargle to Croake. Repas lifted to Wyatt in center. Rossiter banged a single between first and second and Rogers lifted to Croake. One hit, no runs. FIFTH INNING: This is real painful. Roth rolled to Kern. The throw to Rossiter was a trifle high but should have been brought down. Rossi ter dropped the throw and the runner was safe. Durant rolled to Kosier, the latter messing the play and as a result both runners were safe. Gargle fanned. Wyatt walked. With the bases choked Wright upcorked a threeply smash which struck Repas' glove and thence rolled to deep center, Repas misjudged the ball. Wright then scored on Denny's single to right. Denny went to second on Lee's tap thru short and once more the stations were loaded with the enemy when Givens stepped up and socked a cleancut home run to deep center. Roth lifted to Kosier. Durant walked and Gargle struck oat. Four hits, eight runs. McHENRY: Kingsley singled to right. Davison fanned. Kosier was hit by a pitched ball and took first, Kingsley going to second. Ehnert struck out. Carroll filled the bags with a single to center. Kern came thru with a home-run, counting three men ahead of him. The blow really shouldn't have been registered as a four-ply smash, but on reaching third, Kern saw that the throw in went wild and into the crowd and then scampered home from third. Repas struck out. Three hits, four runs. SIXTH INNING: Wyatt, Wright and Denny all fanned. No hit*, no runs. McHENRY: RomHct out, Gargle to Croake. Rogers singled to right. Kingsley lined to Wyatt in center. Davison lifted a high fly to short right which looked like an easy out for either Croake or thirant. However, the ball fell safe, the hit sending Rogers to third. At this juncture Lee made a bad peg and Davison went on to second. Ehnert lifted to Wyatt in center. Two hits, one run. SEVENTH INNING: Lee lined to McHENRY S mm or mmm •wt CAN'T PLAY THEM AlX SO WE PLAY THE BEST / THUR8. AtyD FRI.. SHOWERS HELD IN HONOR OF MISS ELIZABETH FREUND The young people of Johnsburg entertained in honor of Miss Elizabeth Freund of this city, a bride to be, at Kempfer's hall in that village last Sunday evening. About fifty guests were present and a most delightful few hours were passed at games and dancing, followed by refreshments. The honored guest was presented with a lovely rocker and rug. Monday afternoon Mrs. Fred Justen entertained at a miscellaneous shower in honor of Miss Freund, at the Justen hotel on Riverside Drive. The festivities of the afternoon opened with a mock wedding, followed by cards and a delicious luncheon. The guests on this occasion numbered forty-five and the gifts presented Miss Freund were many and beautiful. The event was greatly enjoyed by those present. This department is yhat is known as the property owners' service department. This department will provide police protection or patroling of the summer homes during the winter months and serve the property owners during the spring, summer and fall season in furnishing men to take care of lawns, shrubbery, garden, etc., (carpenters, masons, painters, etc., at current wages and at the time specified by the party desiring help. At* the present time Kent &' Green have twenty-eight homes that they are taking care of, but they have now started to increase this number as they have increased their facilities to take care of them. The amount to be charged each property owner will not cover the expenses but Kent & Green are doing this to be of SERVICE to the people and to be of assistance to them vhile they are here on their vacation. They have a complete information bureau to employment and will be abl to furnish maids for general housework, as well as men for any kind of employment. They have also engaged the services of a man to haul away rubbish, etc., that accumulates during tl\e summer months. Kent & Green have so arranged their department as to take care o? practically all of the needs of property owners. This department is not only limited to summer resort property owners, but also takes in the city aa well. A representative of the firm will call and explain in detail. EIGHTH INNING: Gargle went out via Kern to Rossiter. Wyatt singled to center. Wright and Voight both lined to Repas in center. One hit, no runs. McHENRY: Davison was thrown out by Wright. NINTH INNING: Lee was safe on a tap to the right of Davison. Davison started after the ball and when he saw that he could not make it left it for Kern but the interference of the pitcher caused Kern to allow the ball to pass, thru him. Lee was forced at second when Croake hit to Kingsley. It was a close play. Givens next forced Croake at second by grounding to Kern. Roth shot a hot liner down to Kosier. No hits, no runs. McHENRY: Kern lifted to Givens in left, the latter had to spring some to pull in the long drive. Repas fanned.
