'V "x ";- ICE CREAM COMPANY TRIM DK 8 TO 5 VISITORS OUTHIT LOCAL* BUT JAIL IN PINCHES SCtftf^ACHER'S WILD NESS ACCOUNTS FOR MOST OF Mc- HENRY'S RUNS The contest as staged here last Sunday afternoon between the Dundee Peerless and local outfit failed to excite the four hundred fans who turned out to witness the struggle. The teams went thru the regulation nine-innings in a sort of half-hearted manner and at no time during the struggle did either side show any real pep. Maybe it was the weather and maybe it was just one of those days when ball players fail to become enthused with the work that had been laid out for them. At any rate, real snap and hustle was a feature that was sadly lacking. The visitors started the elongated W. Schumacher on the mound and this young fellow would probably have impressed the local fandom a greai deal more if he had possessed control with that sjteed and curve. Schumacher just couldn't keep the ball off the ground and as a consequence had his battery mate digging 'em up out of the dirt right along, to say nothing of the many passed balls. It was a weary exhibition, to say the least. As is usually the case when the foe does not measure up with specifications, so to speak, the locals also showed a lack of "swift" and seemed content to go thru the regulation nine innings at the long end of the score. All told the visitors employed*twelve men. To tell the truth it looked as if Dundee had come up to McHenry to try 'out the material for this year's team. On account of the wildness of Schumacher, McHenry's score does not show up so well in the tabulated result altho it looked to us as if McHenry could step out there and win the game at any time if they really wished to extend themselves. Davison, who did the "pegging" for our side, took things easy and only once or twice during the entire contest was he forced to bear down a bit. The story by innings: FIRST INNING: Clough struck out. Moss singled thru short and went to second when J. Schuring walked. H. Buhrow singled past first, the hit scoring Moss and sending J. Schuring around to third. BuhroW stole second. Schuring scored and Buhrow took third on a wild pitch. Ehlert and Bowen both fanned. Two hits, two runs. McHENRY: Rosier drew a pass and went on to second when, the ball rolled to the back stop. Gross' sacrifice, Ehl ert to Z. Buhrow, put Rosier on third. Tornquist walked. Rosier scored and Tornquist took second on a passed ball. Carroll and Rogers fanned.
