The spectacular thing about the game was that Hebron was trying to win over Mc- Henry by playing six men at once. * Captain Conway put his forces into action the first quarter in such a fast and scientific manner that the locals scored up seven points against no points by Hebron. Kinsala opened up the scoring by sinking one of his usual nifty shots. Jimmie Fay sunk in a basket and one free throw, while his well known brother "Red" makes two free throws. Needless to say our boys had lots of fun chasing the ball, with Hebron playing tag after them. The second period was started off with a bang by Red Fay, who took Hebron off their feet by sinking in an unexpected basket. Hebron managed in some way to get their hands on the ball and make a pot shot. Meantime Bob Conway had gotten his Irish up and as soon as he fingered the ball he snapped into the race down by two guards and sank in a sensational basket. Joe Barbian showed his stuff by sinking in i pretty free throw, thereby raising McHenry's score to 12. Hebron ras fortunate enough to land two free throws, which totaled their score at 4. Kinsala scored a free throw for McHenry, too. As Referee Ashley's whistle for the end of the first half sounded, McHenry was leading by a score of 14-4. Bob Conway was high scorer for McHenry in the third quarter, making one basket and one free throw. Hebron came to in this quarter and made two baskets and trhee free throws. The score stood 16 to 11 in favor of the locals as the third period ended. The foarth quarter was a period of hard fighting between the two teams. Hebron scored one basket only. Joe Barbain made one free throw for McHenry. The remainder of the final period was spent in - a real battle i between the teams, neither allowing the other side to score. As the final whistle blew, McHenry stood victorious by a 17-13 score. The lightweight teams of the schools played a close and hot curtain raiser which resulted in a victory for McHenry. McHenry opened the scoring in this game also; Harrison being the man who scored a free throw for McHen- Yy, Hebron shortly after made a free throw, ttioo. Hie game progressed slowly, due to indecision by the referee to certain plays that were being made, which were very questionable. However, as a windup to the first period, Hebron made a basket, whicn gave them the first and last lead of the evening. Frett and Geir made two sensational field goals for* McHenry in the second period. Hebron scored two free throws. The two teams thus ran neck and neck throughout the greater part of the second quarter. Fouls, double dribbles, and running with the ball furnished plenty of excitement for the local fans in attendance. As th4 first half came to a close the two teams stood tied 5-5. The opposing teams seemed to be getting lots of kick out of being tied so they continued the situation in the third period by both sinking an equal amount of points, such as they were: one free throw and one basket apiece, which tied them at 8-8. The Orange and Black played fox and googe with the Hebron boys the remainder of the third quarter. However, as the fourth period opened up the locals decided they had better run ahead a little so as to be positive of insuring themselves acainst any lucky shot that Hebron might make. As the situation turned out the McHenry boys didn't allow Hebron to score at all in the final quarter, while Jimmie Geir made two j wonderful baskets and added to this, two free throws by Jake Bylsma, aggregated McHenry's score to 14 while Hebron remained at 8. McHenry did not score again in the final period so i " hen Ashly blew the final whistle i the victory was the locals' by -a 14-8 I =eore. j Notes on Game ! It was especially noticeable../that I Capt. Conway played a very good ! game of guarding, although he was •suffering from a case of grippe which !-ad kept him out of school most of the week. Frett and Geir showed up very nicely in the game and if they keep up the pace they are now making it is hard to predict where they'll end up. The Fay brothers maintained the old record of fine eo- ! operation in their guard and forward | work. Also the boys did well to win j by playing five men against six that j Hebron had on the floor for about j t-.vo minutes. However, Hebron really ! made up for that by playing four and one-half the remainder of the game. The one-half is accounted for in the persbn of some midget that appeared on the scene from the Hebron ranks. McHenry-Elburn The two local quintets went down to defeat on Saturday night before the teams of the Elburn high school. The Elburnites came to McHenry with the famous record of badly beating Elgin, St. Charles, and others, and of coming within four points of beating i Joliet. The heavies lost 34-13 and the lights lost 20-18. The McHenry boys played very good basketball but the other teams were just a little better. And as no school can win all the time, the Orange and Black still feel proud of the record they have made so far this season which is, excluding the Elburn game, one defeat, while they have won eight oat of nine games.
