On Wednesday of last week i t snowed al l day, and turning cold on Thursday we then had three as tedious days as we have experienced this winter . On Saturday morning the thermometer ranged from live to four­ teen degrees bejow zero, iu different lo­ cali t ies. On Sunday i t was mild and warm, but in the evening i t again com­ menced snowing and continued through the night-and nearly al l day Monday, full two foot of snow fal l ing, I t is now a l i t t le colder and we are wait ing for the ne^t change. ACCIIMVT ON THE RAILROAD. The morning train on the Fox River Railroad encountered a broken rai l on Saturday morning one pule North of Genoa Junction, Wis. , and were thrown into t ' l ie di tch with great force." Conductor Newcomb was thrown across the baggage car, considerably bruised and wil l no doubt be disablod for several days. THE Pupils of the Ringwood Public School wil l give two exhibit ions at the Congregational Church, in that vi l lage • n W ednesday and Friday evenings of j this week, the proceeds to be applied towards building a sidewalk to the School House. Now that the storm is over i t would be well for our ci t izens to remember that there is an ordinance now in force requiring them te clean the snow from the walks in front of . their premises within twelve hours, under a penalty of not less than three nor more than ten dollars . The Ordinance is a good one, and every ci t izen should see that his part of the duty is performed without delay. WE are informed that a new family arrived in town during the storm on Monday night, and our friend, F. A. Hebard, with his usual kindness of heart gave them a warm corner in his cel lar . I t wil l be remembered that Mr. Rogers formerly taught school in the old seminary bui^iug, at Crystal Lake, (now the beautiful residence of the late S. S, Gates.) and afterwards was Chaplain of the old 15th, Reg' t of I l l inois Volunteer. Turn out and give hl.in a hearing. He will speak at '2 o'clock p. m., and evening. Also Satur­ day evening, March 17, in same place. The llniversalists will bear this iu miud, The Nunda Public School wil l close i ts winter term Friday, March 23, with an exhibit ion in the evening. The place has not been decided upon at this writ­ ing, but due notice wil l be given. Mr. Pierce has labored with commendable zeal to advance the interests of our school, and that he has been quite suc­ cessful wil l be apparent to al l those that call and l is ten to the recitat ions of his class. . I t is expected now, that onr Pickling Works wil l be in full blast the coming season, is Mr. Waidnei* is taking steps in that direction. It would he iwjust net to notice that, part signified by the word "Union." By bringing the societ ies of Crystal Lake and Nunda together i t has formed flu associat ion mutually agreeable. Numerous questions have arisen when both have expressed a desire t<> have i t arranged to the convenience of the residents of the other place. Many such occurrences have served to build up a friendly feeling between the two who had been sl ightly at variance, This has been no small feature of the Society 's success. v The Baptist society hare, a Maple Sugar Festival at Mallory 's Hall this week Friday. The western grasshoppers made their appearance here in Yolo in the fal l of 1875. and before they could lay their eggs, the fanners combined together and made . a desperate eflort to drive them away orexterminate them. Many thought with the pray­ ers aud anathemas of these divines, there would not be a grasshopper left this side of kingdom come. Well the effort was made, commencing with prayers and accusations, and with as many groans as the mountain dii i that was said, to be in labor and brought forth as such, to wit : A mouse. Now if there is any lover of Fossi ls or Antiquarian that wishes to interview and investigate true Indi­ an Mounds, they can be accommodated as there are some ten or twelve within as many number of miles of McIIenry Vil lage. These Mounts are found in three different locali t ies in Ihe Town of Grant , Lake Co. Three are si tuated ou a r idge or bluff a few rods northeaat of Squaw Creek bridge, at the foet of Long Lake, f ive or s ix on the north shore .of Wooster Lake, and one very large one on the south shore of Fox Lifke, That one I as.- is ted in making a superficial examination of a short t ime ago. We found a human skeleton that was of giant dimensions, ' j 'he Femur ( thigh bone) was two feet one inch in length, but the skull aud under jaw were equal to Livingston's descript ion of a Hottentot 's or a Goril la 's . The forehead wa3 very low, cheek bones high, the face very short and wide, eyes large, and chin very broad. The CH- uine teeth assumed the form ef a tusk, and must have protruded a finger 's length (2&inclies)out of his mouth. Tru­ ly a fine old American gentleman of the olden t ime. So is a wild hog if anyone thinks so, as this father Adam fought his enemies with the s^i^o weapon, l lere is another great curiosi ty, the Tiben and Tibula (shin bone) were but 8J inches long, corresponding to the Anatomical formation of a Kangaroo or a Gray Hounds hind leg, showing great speed or Physiologists are at fault . And ou this poini , I challenge contradict ion. Again, this discovery throws a glaring l ight , in favor of the special creation theory, and against Darwin's decent theory, and the (sur­ vival of the l i test dtfetr iue. Also this skeleton shows great strength,fcroci®us weapons of defence, and the speed of the wind. In conclusion, we would ask.
