A Chinese printing office is n grcatef jffkiriosity than oue would think; The, abet numbers way into the thous- *'• tmK and :( cap and lower-east goe» all < the way round the inside of a two storjr Building and half way up the roof. It tkes an apprentice twenty years to ara the ease, and then he has to use step-ladder to get at the higher tranches. A case was pied once in Can-un, and it took five days t* remove ||he typo from the form of the foreman ^Phey punctuate wherever they can "j|rop a dot. without regard to the pros pective. When the editor coins a new ford the printer whittles out a new ttiaracter with his jack-knife. The *jt>urne* nien set by the square foot, and never belong to a union. They do M^ir presswork by hand, and use box- tlig gloves to ink the type. They have •ne paper in the empire that is a thou* land years eld, aud the bouud volumes Half fill a pagoda. It is rumored that Bennett has started to edit that vener- " ible paper. The editor's head is re- iponsible for all items published. Net <ln editor has been beheaded in China for the last five hundred years. The V Chinese have just invented a twenty- five cylinder press for printing ^ea chests, with which they are able to print one a week.--San Francisco Morv- itor. f* v A writer to the Cincinnati Com mercial tells this story of an old lady neighbor: Th6 other day she was told that eight mules were killed by light ing in an adjoining county, where her husband works.
