It Is owned and was raised by Charles Wright, who lives East of this village. Quite a large party of the little folks Assembled at the Riverside House on Saturday last in honor of the birth day of Miss May, youngest daughter of mine host Wight man, and a merry time they had. They used the large Hall for their play room and the way they enjoyed It as none but children can, almost made us wish we were a child again. They were a merry hap py, crowd, and after being served with a bounteous repast under the supervi sion of Mrs. Wightraan, went home with happy recollections of their after noon frolic. v' rrtMttop vftiie Boa: Council. May day was pleasantly and univei^ sally observed by our little folks In the hanging of May baskets. In this man ner many a young gentlemrn of ten or twelve was enabled to express his ten der preference for some young lady of corresponding age--the flower laden basket hung secretly upon her door be ing a mute avowal of the passion which swayed even the Gods of classic Greece. I was favored with the sight of a few that were beautiful tn design and somewhat expensive. The complimentary party at the Richmond Home on the evening of May 1st was a grand attoeess both as to the number present and also the en joyment of the occasion. The supper was uever excelled in th*. Btahmond House, and I think nowhere else. The assemblage was quite as representative of the old as well as the young; 1st fact. It was a spontaneous gathering of (Viends, to do honor toXr. and Mrs. Billet, whose fame as accomplished host and hostess Is well known beyond our narrow precinets. May prosperity attend them. Many of our citizens have been busy st two or three weeks In heautl- jheir homes in various ways. Joe. made iilftntw place, the late fUJook quite nest picket y a day, !• going hp" Of A. In this vicinity there seems to be 11 Ml* interest in who the candidates for the judgeship shall be, with the exception of Judge Mur phy. In his re-election to the Judge ship he has filled with so much ability and honesty for so many years, a large majority of our citizens feel a lively interest. Probably no man ever occu pied the bench as many years as Judge Murphy has with less stain thin he has. Indeed it would be impossible to pick a flaw, justly, in his judicial career.-- His long experience, his comprehensive knowledge of law, his strict impartial ity and integrity, eminently fit him for a posi tion of so much honor and trust. That's the way most of us feel in tills part of the District. Mr. Coon lies lately visited Richmond, looking after his own chaneea for support here, but I think he forHMf llttlo encourage ment. While Mr. Coon may be a good lawyer and have such qualifications as 'Slight fit him for the Judgeship, It would be folly to trade off so experi enced and eminent a Jurist as Judge Murphy, for Mr, Coon or aoy other un tried man. ________ An exhibition of drawings by Miss Miners drawiug class, waa held at the Art room on Friday afternoon, and was creditable alike to Miss Miner's success as a teacher, and the talent of her large class of pupils.
