JrfcDNKSDAY* JUNK 13*11,1870. YAW ^YKt!, Xklttor. "EDITOR PLAINDEAIKB :--Ti»© Straw berry Festival on Friday evenlnjj last wns» Strawberry Festival this (line amino mistake. The berries oould not have been finer, and then the blight eyes, and the pretty ribbons and trailing faces and winning ways of those who served them. It was a gloomy sort of a night out side and the contrast upon stepping Into the Hall Was very pleasing and effective. Tlifc Band played several selections and played them well, adding much to the enjoyment. They have the thanks of the Baptist people, as does also Mr. Henry Mai man who generously dona ted his Hall both evenings. About #15,00 was realized which, the weather considered, was more than dfijoi the hopeful ones expeoted. One of oar citizens undertook to set his clock by the school bell. He set it 7 times in two days, wondering' mean time what ailed bis clock, then gave it op and now sets her by guess. The blustering storm of Saturday venlng last put & damper on the Good Templers. No ladles, or very few, ventured out and no regular meet ing was held, Can it be possible that the in«iduous ailment which carried of! the "bloomln" B. R. G. is conta gious? The event of the week past, perhaps was the runaway scene of Thursday, Mr. Arthur Cook started for town having with him In a light wagoA his wife and young son. When near the residence of Capt. Hammond he touched one of the horses with a whip "to make him tread up a little" when the bit broke and the hores darted oft. Turning oft the road near the outlet they ran down the high bank upsetting the wagon and precipitating Mrs. Cook, her son and the butter tubs in a con fused mass at the water edge. Mr. Cook jumped out at the instant the bit gave way thinking to get hold of the horses by the head but failed to do so. After running through town, tee ring themselves and the wreck through the maze of vehicles which lined main street on both sides with miraculous safety to all, the team finally brought up near J. B. Wells, barn. The little bov'e ankle was sprained and he sustained several pain ful bruises as did also his mother. Mrs. John Boomer is in Maryland. Roads, crosswalks, drains &c., begin to show the result of Mr. George Mills 'efficient and well directed cfiorts. Mr. Mills appointment does credit to all ncerned. The "Galorlons 4th" In Wauconda is to be a grand success if the Wauconda people only want it should be. The success of the Barge is assured and it ill be running. on that day* hence there will be a grand display of fire works on the water, or rather on the Barge in the evening. We state this as a fact beoause we feel as confident that the dance to be held In Mai man's Hall on Friday evening the 20th Inst will be a grand success, This dance Is for the purpose of raising funds to buy the fireworks. The musio and Hall are donated, a good example is furnished, and the half dollars will flow in freely from all quarters. You get your moneys worth three . times over. No pains will be spared to make the dance the jolllest one of the season. There's one. You get a dollars worth of satisfaction in knowing you are one of the enter prising one's. There's two. You see the fire works later on. There's three. Nothing like demonstrating things, •h?
