Mrs. Wollner nee Cashion, was born and educated in McHenry, where, she has many relatives and friends who will mourn her loss. Death has taken from them a dear and aflectiouate friend whose memory will ever be cherished. She leaves a true and kind Imsbaud, who has done all in his power to alleviate her suffering and smooth the thorny path of sickness to the last moment. She passed away calmly with a parting farwell to those she loved, centering her vision above, whsre we hope to meet her in peace and happiness. Cox. THE Drama of the "Banker's Daugh ter," as played by the McHenry Dra matic Club on Thursday aud Friday evenings last, was a grand success, and was received with tlie highest com mendations by the large audience In attendance. There was a little break the first evening on account of the sud den and severe illness ou the stage ot the leading actor, Mr. F. C. Going, but he succeeded in going through the play in a manner creditable both to himself and the Club, being obliged however to leave out one of the prin cipal scenes. On the second evening every tiling passed oft in the best of manner, and to the entire satisfaction of those in attendance. As we have said bsfore. we cannot particularize, but where all done so well it is not necessary. McHenry has just cause to feel proud of her home Dramatic Club. The Drama wiil be repeated for the benefit of Frank C. Going, on Saturday evening, when no one should fail to SO. Richmond Department. ELKCAM PAINTINGS. We have had the pleasure of exam- ning a fine lot of Paintings, executed by Miss Clara B. Owen, and sent from Paris to her parents in this village, and wiiieli are now on exhibition at Mr. Owen's Store. They were copied by M iss Owen from some of tire choic est and most expensive Painting*' in Franc, and aie certainly the finest we ever saw. Among them arc the fol lowing: "The Plowing Match," by Rosa Bon- heur. "La Malaria," which represents an Italian family fleeing trom the Plague. "The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin,' by Murrillo. "The Birth of the Virgin," also by Murrillo. "La Chaste Suzanne," is a copy by >1 iss Owen after the original, by Jean .Jacques IIunier. "A Study by Zagonard." Beside? the above there are several smaller Pictures, all of which are in deed wonderful ^vorks of Art, Time nor space wiII not permit us to speak at this time of these pictures as we wish, but we shall refer to again at some future time. BuC no lover of the beaut i ful should fail to call at Mr. Owen's Store and see them. i«)d we believe all who do so will agree jp" wit.li us tlnit Miss Owen has made re markable progress since crossing the Ocean, and that with her natural and wonderful gift is bound to be ranked with the most famous Artists in the old and new world. THE quarterly review of the Metho dist Sunday School, of this villags, will take rl*ce at the Church on Sunday evening next, at which time there will be exercises, consisting of Singing, Recitations, &c.. and some other exer cises of which the ladies are loth to tell us of, but as that day happens to be Christmas wo t re led to believe they will be of the most interesting charac ter. All are cordially invited. WE would again lemind the dancing public of the New Year's Party, at that popular dancing resort, the River- slde House, which takes place DII Mon day evening, January 2d. The Wau- conda Orchestra has been engaged to furnish the music, the Hall has been put In thorough order for the occasion, (and all know that there is no better Hall in the Northwest,) and nothing will be left undone for the comfort and pleasure of those "vho attend. Go to the Riverside and you will be sure and have a"goo/1 time, a good supper, and go home well pleased. PROFESSOR TICE. the distinguished Meteorologist and weather prophet of St. Louis, has Issued his Annual Na tional Weather Forecasts for 1882. in which, besides foretelling the weather for every day in the year, and clearly •xplaining the theory on which his predictions are bas£d, he gives much other information concerning atmos pheric phenomenon--the whole de signed not only to give the facts as to the weather, but to teach the masses the (acts determining weather changes. The lioye tlicy had a William goat, And ho was black and white; And not like roses did he smell, Yet was their chief delight. And they, like Mothor Hubbard, Who lived in days of yore, "Went to the tailor's for a coat," And tied him to the door. The man of coats despises gnats, And went and turned him loose; Ani muchly tempted was the man, To kill him with his goose. They took him to the »hoe-»hop And there he was turned out-- It made the people •mile, you know, To have the goat about. Then down the street he saw a man, And ran his level host, And struck him hard upon the back, Down just be loir the vest. Dr. Anderson, of McHenry, was in Richmond on Sunday last in attend ance on Mrs. Parker, who is ill. We are right glad to see that the Doctors old patients remember his skill and send for him in time of need. It should not be forgotten that the exhibition to be given by the pupils of the Richmond Public School will be held next Friday evening at the Rich-, mond House Hall. We have learned enough of the programme to confident* ly predict a treat to all who attend. The people of Spring Grove will hold their Christmas festivities at the Methodist Church in that village, where the presents will be distributed from a Christmas Tree. We under stand that the different denominations are working heartily together to make the festivities a success. Let all who can be sure to attend. The people in tha neighborhood of the W ashington School House are to have a Christmas Tree at that temple of learning next Saturday evening.-- Aside from the distribution of pres- ents a very interesting programme of exercises will be presented. The friends are invited. We happen to know thai the good people of that neighborhood never do things by halves, and whoever would spend a pleasant evening is advised to attend their Christmas festivities. Should McHenry happen to have one or a half-dozen good live men in want of a paying business, the one or half dozen better investigate the Spring Bed business which Messrs. Hyde, Alexander A Samson now control in this State. Any letters asking for in formation, addressed to the above named tirm, will meet with a quick re ply. The bed sells at sight, and a man who will work, can mak<' a good thing by engaging in the business. Not long since, in conversation with a prominent citizen of Elgin, he re marked: "51'lte-MeHenry PLAINDEALKK is the best local sheet published in the State of Illinois. The Soldiers De partment is a great hit. That man Van Slvke ought to be at the head of a paper witli one hundred thousand subscribers." Now Van, don't be too modest to print the above. It only shows what people abroad think of the PLAINDEALKIC, and we hear similar comments every little while. Droppin 1>4 Xmas. O. W. The Baptist aud Presbyterian Sab bath Schools will join In having a Christmas Tree, and other exercises, in the Baptist church, Saturday evt Dec. 24tli. . The scholars of the higher depart ment in our public school will give an entertainment In Murphy 's' Hall, this week Thursday eve., for the benefit of the school. We nave not learned what the programme is to consist of, but hear that much time and preparation have been spent by both teachers and pupils to make a success of the under taking. The Honorable Board of Supervisors are In session this week. Our night watchman. Mr. Coughlin seems to us to be the right man for the position he holds. Yet there are a class of persons here that are not In sympathy with law and order, who And fault with the officer mentioned because in attempting to arrest a notorious rough and bully last Satur day night, he found It necessary to fire two or three shots over the head of the fleeing disturber of the peace, who had broken away from Mr. C., after having fought that gentleman and used him rather roughly. The better "lass of our citizens, aud much the larger portion, commend the action of the officer and honor hiut for endeavor ing to perform his duty. The feather headed individual, that slops over in each weeks communica tion to the Richmond Gazette, from this place, is respectfully invited to read what the editor of the PLAIH- DEAI.EH said last week as regards the types making,us speak of Joe Garrison as the pardoned criminal, when it should have read hardened criminal.-- Any one of horse sense would have un derstood how the mistake occurred but it is evident that this feUttw does not even possess the least particle of such. The Rev. J, D. McLean, of the Presbyterian chnreh/ ¥j|£hatiged pul pits with the Rev. .t. A<fau^s, of the M. G. Church, last sabbath morning. We are pleased to hear that Dr. J. Q. Adams has been appointed Postmaster of Marengo. The Elgin Advocate did not seem to cut much figure in its on slaught and interference against the appointment of Dr. Adams of thit county, and even in Kane County it would appear they have failed in naming the man that has knocked the persimmons for the Postmastership of Elgin, Mr. Le Baron, editor of the Elgin Daily Newt and Envoy, which papers are strong rivals of the Advocate, having carried oft the prize. We have heretofore made mention of the clegeut and convenient resi dence being built for Dr. A. E. Baldwin, on 'Clay Street in this cityv but since he has moved into the same we have neglected to make a note of it The following we clip from the able correspondence from this city to the Harvard Independent in last weeks is sue. which is , much better than we could do should we attempt to write about it. Dr. A. E. Baldwin now occupies his new residence and office on Clay street. It is certainly a model of elejrance aud reflects great, credit ou the builders. Messrs. Blink & Corlctt. We cannot refrain from mentioning the arrange ment of the office, which is on the left as you approach the building from the street. It is expected that anyone call ing on the doctor professionally will enter the office without stopping to be invited, as the door is never locked (in fact there is no lock on it) and the room will !>e fouud warmed aud light ed at all hour* of the day and night, and^upplied with the daflr and week ly papers. In plain sight is a bell-pull, connecting with a bell iu the doctor's sleeping room, Iu the inner office, are shelves and drawers, which, with their contents relemble a small drug store.-- The doctor dispenses nearly all the medicine he prescribes. The room is furnished with an eye to convenience and coinfo: t, and is certainly as pleas ant as it is possible to make a duclor's office, which by the way. never seemed like a pleasant place to us. Dr. Bald win lias been a resident of Woodstock les; than a year aud h<ut acquired a piactlce j^eldoin gained in years.
