The domain named Dakota covers acres enough to make eighteen States of the size of Massachusetts, yet itTS^but little more than half as large as Texas. It has land enough, certainly, and r«®Pl* enough to meet the requirements for two States. But so long as the f>?ople • re Republican the Democratic major ity in the house of representatives will not consent to their admission to the union as ohe State. let alone two. IST-The Chicago Anarchists have been dead twenty days, and yet there has been no uprising and the streets have not flown with blood. Why is this? Were the blusterers who threatened {such dire results merely blustering, or did they mean that blood would flow only in case the whole seven were hanged? The stronger probability is that they know more than they did about the certain consequences of lawlessness ib this country. We know now. to a demon stration, that lawless people can have peace in this country just as leu? as they want it bad enough to be peace? able themselves. 'Hon. Charles E. Fuller, the "silver-tongued ' orator of Boone, the leader of tbo late house et the Illinois legislature on the Republican side, is being promineetly mentioned as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor next year, Mr. Fuller has been for the past ten years continuously in the state senate or house, and is a man of superior ability. He poeesses a rare gift of oratory and would till the posi tion with great honor. McHenry, Xov. 30th, f&*A London paper recently con tained the following novel state meat. "Between the numeroas red men and the barbarous Prohibitionists the resevation of Dakota, west of the United States, in North America, is Jikely to be depopulated. The Probi- bitioulsts, a large tribe of aborigaee, hive commenced a war of extermina tion. The mode of warfare of this tribe is to capture the 'enemy and treat him jn the most horrible manner. They will shut him up until he dies ol thirst* The Prohibitionists are a peculiarly constructed people by nature, as they never get thirsty. The pestmaster-general has ordered three men-of-war to move np the Jim river to t£e coast of Dakota where the en tire res#ration can be bombarded." FOX LAKE. Editor Plaindealeh:--The season at the Lakes is now «ver and the Hotel men and boarding house proprietors •re busily engaged drawing their bal ance sheets and stacking up the green- backs io the Counting House. Some amuse themselves looking at the pile during the hours of relaxation, and wondering what all this wealth is go ing to be invested in; whether it will be directed like a catapult against the 8tandard Oil Trust Combination, or startle Wall street out of its boots.-- Others, perhaps, decide to place the financial ship in dry dook, acd invest tbe surplus wads in the work of home repairs and squaring up, may be, with the Plain dealer. It has been a flush summer, and not alone at the public establishments has the bill of tare been generous, but pie has come to stay in the poor man's larder, Thanksgiving is repeated every day. and the citizens vest has ceseed to meet in Iroat. Some of our people have gone East •n a Holiday tour, but tbe majority of the oarsmen h^ve not yet decided whether 'tis to be Los Angelos or Florida, and the Pass system being abolished perhaps the journey will be limited to McHenry and Antioch. To various causes have been ascribed tbe exceptional success of this season. Some going so far as to attribute it to Cleveland's administration but this theory Is referred to the Plaindkaler for arbitration; some, to the dam at McHenry, maintaining that a large •umber of old time visitors becoming aware that this dam was about to be removed and the travel to the lakes obliterated in the direction of Mc Henry, resolved in a body to pay a farewell visit to Fox Lake. I„<]eed it Is suspected that some of ihe afaTe- satd farewell visitors have routed tec- t!6ns of the river from the Johnaburgh farmers for next summer, portions of It to be used as snipe grounds, and others utilized by a syndicate of hay •peculators. A Norwegian ig al*o said teliave rented an acre"opposite the Leoe Tree, en the river, aud ie going extensively into garden sass for the Hotels abeve. That the eldest and largest tobacco factory in tit world is in Jersey City, N. J. That factory makes the popular and world- famed Climax Plug, the acknowledged stand ard for first-class chewing tobacco. That this factory was established as long' ago as 1760. That last year (iS36) it made and sold the enormous quantity of 27,982,280 lbs. or fourteen thoif- sand tons of tobacco. That this was more than one-seventh of all the to bacco made in the United States notwith standing tbat there were 966 factories at woric. That in the last 21 years this factory has helped support tlfe Unitcd States Government to the ? extent of over Forty-four million seven hun dred thousand dollars ($44,700,000.00) paid into the U. S. Treasury in Internal Revenue Taxes. That the pay-roll of this factory is about $1,000,- 000.00 per year or $<20,000.00 per week. That this factory employs about 3,500 operatives. That this factory makes such a wonderfully good cbew in Climax Plug that many other factories have tned to imitate it in vain, and in despair now try to attract custom by offering larger pieces of inferior goods for the same price. That this factory nevertheless continues to increase its business every year. That this factory belongs to and is operated by Yours, very truly, P. LORILLARD & CO.
