The other day wo noticed him u fee ctme across the bridge, with bis wagon full of cotton, chicken and eggs. He found ready market for his pro- doof. and we thought how happy hie little ones would be when he returned borne In the evening with toys, and dresses and shoes, and food for the morrow, and some money in the purse. We thought we ooold see the wife In tie doorway to giro him a cordial treating on his return, so anxious we Wan that he should make home ones oontented. We could almost see bis aheerful face as he returned to his family after a day's absence. So we thoaght and returned to our work. But even time came and be bassed by <onr window again. He bad nothing we thoaght he would have. The bed of the wagon was bare. No little shoes nor toys, nor dresses, nor food for the I morrow, nor money in his parse we daresay. The man was drunk. He bad changed, and this changed our thoughts of his home. We could see the children shrinking from bis ap proach. and his wife so careworn and •orrowfuL She could not meet blm with the pleasant smile she bad in tended greeting him with. He was breaking heart and preparing to make paupers of bis children.--Alabama Bapike. Al« mm* Bear MSMN. One day, when the lesson was the table called,"Ale and Beer Measure." a little boy, remarkable for bis correct lessons was quite unprepared. "How la this, John ?" said tbe teaoher to him.
