I THE Village Board, accompanied b: ihe^ity Attorney, made a trip to Chica go on Friday last, to confer with the railway authorities in regard to putting in gates or flagmen at the crossings, in this village. We believe they compro mised the matter by flagging all south bound trains and freight trains wbile switching, at the north crossing, near, .the pickle factory. /SETEKALIJ large wolves have been seen in this vicinity lately and our hunters are making; daily pilgrimages over the country looking for them. It is raid what is supposed, to be the wolves have killed several sheep and a yearling heifer south of this village. There is another rumor that a Lynx has also been seen near Terra Cotta, supposed to have been driven from the north by the late forest fires there. We cannot vouch for the truth of the presence of the last named, i *I. HOWARD, who recently engaged with Armour & Co., Chicago, as traveling THE Bazaar and Supper given by the ladies of the Willing Workers Society, at rSiw Moll An EViiidv ttvaninv laaf was one of the most successful entertain ments ever given in this village, both financially and otherwise. The total re ceipts were aboutjllgp/ The supper was KreneGST^TaSl to be one of the best ever set before a hungry people, and it was nerved np in a style second to Bone. On the table there was every eatable the heart could wish or the appetite crave for. In the Bazaar was many valuable and useful articles which found ready purchasers from the large crowd present. The literary part of the entertainment was indeed a treat. While we have neither the time nor space to particular ize, we cannot refrain from making par ticular mention of the male quartette, of which McHenry is justly proud. With their present organization they will com pare favorably with any of the profess ionals in the city. The recitation by Grace Stevens was also a pleasing feature of the entertainment and was highly en joyed by all present. Taken all in all it was one of the most pleasant entertain ments ever held here, and we are glad to know that, it proved so anoeeoaful flnan- $ally to the society. : enry Post, No. 648, Gh •. B. Last season they were obliged to decline some orders in justice to their customers. This speakB very loudly the praises of this concern, and while other manufacturers wefe closed they were run ning overtime. The Boot and Shoe Re porting Co.'s statistics show this firm to be doing the largest volume of business of any manufacturer selling to the retail trade from Boston, which is the heart of the boot and shoe industry of the coun- try^^fbiameans in these days of compe tition, that up to date styles, courteous treatment and prices lower than others care to offer, make« success. What a blessed thing it would be if one could run a newspaper and never ask some of his subscribers to pay up. Aa long as the paper goes on week aftfr week and |no statement is sent for ar rearages, everything goes like clockwork and you are sne of the best, most accom modating editors on earth; your paper is the best in the country, your items are highly relished; your advice followed; your sayings gladden the hearts of the household and happiness reigns supreme. But, oh! what a brute you are, after sending the paper two or three years for nothing, if you politely send in your bill and ask for what is due or a portion of it. Your darned old paper isn's any ac count ; 1 just took it to accommodate you; no one in the family reads it; we Know where all the stores are; we can get lenty of free reading matter at the drug stores, and hundreds of other mean and contemptible things are hurled at the editor and his paper.
