WHEN King David, musingly said, All men are liars," he must have been glancing over the tax schedules of the day. • . IT is estimated that Oklahoma will send 750,000 bushels of peaches into the northern market, which shows that wheat is by no means the only«|*roduct of that territory. <• IT has been admitted officially that the cost to England of continuing the campaign in Sonth Africa, including the maintenance of prisoners, is $6,250,000. a week. Leaving out of account the great sacrafice of life, every war im poses a heavy financial burden upon the nations engaging in it. 7. PIERPONT MORGAN has given a mil lion dollars to Harvard university, prob ably having in mind that precept of scripture which says: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works." Russell Sage, how ever, seems to prefer to abide by anoth er injunction: "Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of SPEAKER HENDERSON had a half hoar " chat with King Edward and is of the opinion that the United States has no more cordial friend in the world: but, forgetting the little ,,unpleasantness which this country had with another British king a century and a quarter ago, what Has America ever done to cause King Edward to entertain other than cordial friendship for this country and its people? r . QUAIL STILL PROTECTED. JN the amended game law, passed at the last session of the legislature, in enumerating what birds or fowls connot be lawfully killed, quail and woodcock were inadvertantly omitted. This has led some to conclude that under the law as amended quail and woodcock can be killed indiscriminately throughout the entire year, but a careful analysis of the law hardly justifies that conclusion. A provision of the new law is to the effect that it repeals all other laws or parts <pf laws that are inconsistent with it. There is no part of the new law that re peals the prohibition against the killing of quail and woodcock, and such parts ^of the old law as were not repealed, it follows, are still in force. Hunters who imagine that they now have license to kill quail and woodcock at any time may find themselves sadly at fault if they attempt it and come in contact with the game wardens.
