Thursday, August *9, 1901. Mi , f © U K P U B L I C S C H O O L . f f School commences next Monday wflb bright prosjXH^ts for a prosperous school year. With Mr. Emerson C. Fisher as superintendent and Mrs. Cobb, Missfcs Agnes Perry, Dora Bealey, Ethel Smith and Kate Howe as teachers, we are en- clined to believe that not a better corps of instructors can be found in the county. But no matter how proficient the instructors may be. they must have the support and influence of the parents and guardians to make a success of the school. Do not think that you are do ing your duty when you simply turn yoor child over to the teachers. When that child comes home at night ask it about its day's work and give the im pression that you take a deep interest in its advancement When the child brings home the report card at the end of the month do not sign it aa you would a business letter, but look at the results of the month's work, and if ijfk up to standard, it is yottr business to know why. The cards are sent out for your benefit. Call at the school during the session hours and investigate the methods employed, and it will assist you in giving the child necessary in struction at home. It is also very an noying to the te&cher to have pupils ab sent several days during the month. It not only retards the advancement of the absentee,-but holds the whole class back. If you familiarise yourself with tin school work, when it becomes necessary to keep children at home you can greatly assist the teacher by keep ing the work up at home. Bear in adnd that the future of a man or wo man depends largely on the training they get in the public schools. We do not think that a college education is neoessary to a successful business career, but the knowledge gained while living at home, attending the public school, is indespensible in any of the walks of life. And above all things let the boys and girls remain in school un til they are graduated, if possible. Of course one may get all the knowledge attainable without graduating, but there are reasons why the commence ment Exercises are held. They usually have a tendency to inspire the members 1 of the class with a sense of their im portance in the world. Send your children to school next Mon day and watch tfeieir progress, co-oper ate with the teachers, visit the school often, and don't let up until the boys and girls hold the much coveted di tto 00 l&e V • *•'[ WOOD 18 NOT 8CARC1C. , , P&bjife generally have the stove wood is scarce, or rather that timber lands are fading away rapidly, but such is not the case. People in this township have been using wood over fifty years and thousands of acres of timber is yet standing. Those who are familiar with the country can loos back ten years, and the difference in the appearance of the forests is hardly perceptible, although nearly every family in town burns wood. It will be many years before the forests disap pear, and no person now living will ever see the day that the supply is ex hausted. Don't worry about the fuel supply this winter, it will be just as plentiful as potatoes. John Warner to Joseph T I'efcoek, pt t>t oH ne w. n of iiy. I.tchmoud . It is a distinction of great simplicity, b^t it is vital enough to ac count for England's fall from the trade supremacy of'the world and the advance United States to that position. iM: IT is predicted that by Jan. 1 next the territory of Oklahoma will have a population of 500,000 people. In that case it is likely to knock mighty hard at the door of the Union for admission. She would be entitled to two members of congress, which is more than little Deleware has, one of the original 13 states of the American union. Okla homa is pushing ahead rapidly. . ONE of those idiots who find amuse ment in rocking a boat has been held by a coroner's jury in Maryland for willful murder. The fact that he swam ashore with one of the girls thrown into the Water when the boat overturned was WDt permitted to outweigh the fact that Hie other was drowned by reason of his folly. m ¥'• *y-. * * • I- P. mA THE Tuesday edition of The Daily Democrat, published by John A. August Flower still has tho larg est sale of any medicine in the civilized world. Your mothers and grand mothers never thought of using any thing else for Indigestion or Biliousness. Doctors were scarce, and they seldom heard of Appendicitis, Nervous Pros tration or Heart failure, etc. They used August Flower to clean out the system and stop fermentation of undi gested food, regnlate the action oi the liver, stimulate the nervous and organic action of the system, and that is all they took when feeling dull and bad with headaches and other aches. You only need a few doses of Green's Au gust Flower, in liquid form, to make you satisfied there is nothing serious the matter with you. Get Green's Prize Almanac. Julia A. Story.
