TCRMS OF SUBSCRIPTION: Oneyemr. : W-6® Six months, 79 CtC. Three months. 40cts. Thursday, n«y 8, 190a* KKPUBUCAN TICKET. For County Judge-- „ . ORSON H. G1LLMORE. For County Clerk-- GEORGE F. RU8HTON. For County Treasurer-- EM I LI'S C. JEWBTT. For Sheriff-- MON ROE W. LAKE. For County Superintendent of Schi "GEORGE W. CONN. JR THERE will be no change in the corps of teachers, in the McHenry public schools, the board of education having so decided at their last meeting. This will be pleasing sews to the parents and everyone interested in the welfare of the school It is as essential that a good teacher should be retained, as well as a superintendent, as long as possible when they have proven their efficiency. That all the McHenry teachers are entitled to another year is conceded. There was only one trial made ot the Bryan Issue this fall, and that was in Nebraska. It Is needless to say that It failed. The Albion Republican remarked that Governor Yates has "faithfully remembered his first duty to the pub lic," and that he proposes to secondly at&nd by his friends. This is proper. The Illinois State Journal says: "A Republican administration should be Judged by what it actually does, not by what its enemies assert that it has done or Intends to do." Editor William Jennings Bryan •ays that "the Commoilwr fills a long felt want" We don't doubt it, but lfr. Bryan forgets that he is the only one who felt It.--Cambridge Chronicle. THE Milwaukee Sentinel of May 2 savs: F. K. Granger of McHenry, 111., representing his district in the state senate, was at the Piaster yesterday, vis iting Senator A. M. Jones. The two were associates in many a political fight in Illinois and served several terms in tiie legislature. "We are having a great fight in Illinois," said Senator Granger, "over the selection of a suc cessor to Senator Mason. The dele gates so far elected in the jjtate at large appear to be largely in favor of the selection of Congressman Hopkins as the next senator from our state. He unquestionably is the choice of the great majority of the Republicans of the state." The free trader is not dead, but his theories ought to be killed beyond the possibility of resurrection. The live lier they are the greater stagnation of business In this country. The deader they are the greater prosperity. Garden - k £ : * We have the largest assortment of Garden and Field Seeds in McHenry. Call on us and we will supply you with everything in the Seed line from a small package of Flower Seeds to any quantity of Clover and Timothy Seed, Etc. West JlcHenry. Simon Stoffel. West McHenry. William J. Bryan finds himself in **the enemy's country" now, even while he remains in Nebraska. But that Is not all There are very few states In which the same condition does not prevail.--Springfield Journal. If, as the freg traders contend, a fa vorable balance of trade Is a delusion, and if a country Is better off for buy ing more than it sells, why isn't Europe glad rather than sorry to see American goods flowing into her markets. AT the meeting of the village board Monday evening Policemen Walsh and Nieeen asked for a raise of ten dollars per month in wages and it was granted. Now, before anyone criticises the action of the board in this matter it should be given careful consideration. Every thing in dry goods and groceries is high er in price this year and it costs more to live. These men put in from four teen to sixteen hours per pay during the year, and were they being paid for their time alone, $50 would not seem too much. Of course, there have been complaints made about the police not earning their $40 salary, but we firmly believe that the ten dollar raise will be so much moro satisfactory to the men that they' will develope enough new energy to earn more than enough to off-set the raise. They have promised the board that they would earn every cent of the money and we believe they mean it. The press of Illinois Is falling into line for the cause of honest labor, as against the present injurious contract prison-system. And Governor Yates* action in favor of honest labor speaks louder than the pretensions of the average politician. There are some papers which take a kind of fiendish delight in attacking In a most unwarranted and savage manner any person who uses his pre rogatives as a public official. It is this clasjj of papers, says the Chester Tribune, jrhlch are now heaping cal umny and slander upon Governor Yates. The gov ernor does not seem to care very much what the Tribune has to say about him, but keeps on sawing wood. He would be a *ruly wonderful man who could be elected governor and run an administration satisfactory to the pa pers of Chicago. Miss.Maude Bennett, of Nunda, called on her sister, Mrs. D. F. Hanly last week. Frank A. Schnony of Ashton, S. D., has been in McHenry the past week. He is engaged in the real estate busi ness and is agent for farming lands in South Dakota. Miss Katie Freund, who has been vis iting her grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Huemann, and other relatives, since January, returned to her house in Chicago Saturday. Thos. W. HALL CO., Dundee, III. 1 The country press, loyal to the party true to the people at all times, Is justly incensed at the growing dlspo- * Sltlon of the Chicago press to the abose and vilification of ptibllc men. Honest criticism of public officials is justifiable, right and not iuconsistent With party loyalty. But studious mis representation, and constant nagging *t the state administration and the Re publican organization, indulged in by Certain Chicago newspapers, is wholly •, , inexcusable and merits the severe re buke which It is receiving at the hands the self-respecting country press. The Chicago Tribune la, as usual, .-faiounclng the Republican state ad- BiinlHtratiou. It muy be expected to t>ecoiue more bitter in Its attacks. The tribune will never be satisfied with a ever nor that tt doe* not own.--Chea-t TrUmna. ^ Commenting upon the propensity for criticising public officers by disap pointed politicians and disgruntled newspapers, the Clinton Public very truthfully remarks: "Of late years it has become the habit of the people to accept as truth the criticism of men who are opposed to the powers that be." It admonishes the people to be loyal to your officers until they prove to you that they are derelict in their duty. This from the Fulton Journal, the Democratic organ of Whiteside coun ty, is very suggestive of the lack of harmony among the Democrats: Do the Democrats want Bryan for candidate for president in 1904? NawJ Do they want Cleveland? Naw!! Do they want Dave Hill? Xaw!!! Do they want Gorman? Naw!! Do they want Watterson? Naw! Do they want Car ter Harrison? Naw! What then do the Democrats want? Don't naw! Ur. Bryan claims that the circular tlon of the Commoner is increasing. That is nut stronge. There are a great many in this country who still believe that Mr. Bryan Is a second Thomas Jefferson. In addition to that, he prints some good things in his paper. One of these was In the advice he gave to his subscribers not to bet on the elections. A good many of them prob ably saved money by following this advice. The Ottawa Republican-Times re marks that it is a little strange that more Republican papers find fault with a Republican governor during the first year of his term than Democratic pa pen, with the possible exception of Bissell. A good deal of fault-finding was indulged In by Republican papers the first year of Governor Yates, the older, Oglesby, Palmer, Cullom, Fifer and Tanner. Our present governor would have been an execeptlon had he not been made a target of by the Chi cago Republican papers and a few of their imitators in the state. Over-Work Weakens Your Kidneys* Unhealthy Kidneys Make Impure Blood. All the blood in your body passes through your kidneys once every three minutes. ^fhe kidneys are your bfcod purifiers, they fil ter out the waste or impurities in the blood. If they are sick or out of order, they fail to do their work Pains, aches and rheu matism come from ex cess of uric acid in the blood, due to neglected kidney trouble. Kidney trouble causes quick or unsteady heart beats, and makes one feel as though they had heart trouble, because the heart is over-working in pumping thick, kidney- poisoned blood through veins and arteries. It used to be considered that only urinary troubles were to be traced to the kidneys, but now modern science proves that nearly all constitutional diseases have their begin ning in kidney trouble. If you are sick you can make no mistake by first doctoring your kidneys. The mild and the extraordinary effect of Dr. Kilmer's Swamp-Root, the great kidney remedy is soon realized.
