THE McHenry County Democrat, which has been the adviser of the county republicans for several months past, pointing out to them the straight and narrow path to success, has actual ly turned its coat and is now mixing in democratic politics. BDUCATK THE BOYS AND GIRLS. This is an era of educational advance ment. Education is the most valuable acquisition in the ciyilized world as the diamond is the most valuable gem. Without a moment's hesitation our readers will acknowledge these facte. Do not stop at this decision, but let us consider the vast difference between the two valuables. The diamond will cost yon a fabulous sum and may be lost in a short time, while a good common school education costs next to nothing and the value of such an education, if yiE- T'y-li the boy or girl is allowed to finish the course, can not be computed until the person has finished his or her life's work. It is something that can not be lost, but rather will form a nucleus about which the high school graduate can weave a web of knowledge that can never be broken. It is not necessary for a boy or girl to attend college to gain a higher education. The price of good books today makes it possible for anyone to spend their hours of leisure in storing up knowledge in any and all studies. It is absolutely necessary, however, that the pupils should finish the high school course, for it is there that they are fired with a desire to learn more, it is there that tbey first comprehend the value of an active and intellectual mind. Their eyes are opened, they can see out into the open and note the attainments of man and the progress of the world, realizing that they can take but a small part in this work without education. We are sorry to say there are parents who have taken their children from school before reaching the high school. It does not seem possible that they would do so, unless it was absolutely necessary, if the matter was given serious thought. The boy or girl may be worth a few dollars at home now, but the value of just a few more years of study can not be estimated. " This is an era of educational advancement and the man with an education is drawing the highest salary. Think and then think again before taking your boy out of school. If h:V IS#* "W PROBA TE NEWS True Economy The difference in cost between an alum baking powder and the h i ghes t - c la s s cream of tartar bak ing powder would not amount for a family's supply to one dollar a year. | Dr. Price's is the standard cream of tar. tar baking powder. It makes the food de licious and healthful. NOTE.--YORT cannot, if yon value good health, afford to use cheap, low-grade, alum baking powders. They are apt to spoil the food ; they do endanger the health. All phyucuns will tell you that akin in food is deleterious REAL ESTATE TRANSFBR8. Don't start the summer with a linger ing cough or cold. We all know what a 'summer cold" is. It's the hardest kind to cure. Often it "hangs on through the entire season. Take it in hand right now. A few doses of One Minute Cough Cure will set you right Sure cure for coughs, colds, croup, grip, bronchitis, all throat and lung troubles. Absolutely safe. Acts at once. Chil dren like it. "One Minute Cough Cure is the best cough medicine I ever used," says J. H. Bowles, Groveton, N. H. "I never found anything else that acted so safely and quickly." Julia A. Story, McHenry ;G. W. Besley, West McHenry. Mean Horses. A very peculiar trait that I have noticed about mean horses, says E. F. El well in an article on Man-Killing Horses in Leslie's Monthly for June, is that they stand the addresses of intoxi cated men. I have many times wit nessed men well under the influence of liquor, who could scarcely ride a broken horse when sober, slap and lounge up against the hind quarters of some of the most vicious animals, the brute never moving a muscle. Should a sober man do this same thing he would be kicked or hammered into carrion. I have met wranglers that have noticed the same peculiarity. Want. Other* to Know. "I have used DeWitt's Little Early Risers for constipation and torpid liver and they are all right I am glad to indorse them for I think when we find a good thing we ought to let others know it," writes Alfred Heinze, Quincy, I1L They never gripe or distress. Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, dis* courages and lessens ambition; beauty, vigor and cheerfulness soon disappear when the kid neys are out of order or diseased. Kidney trouble has become so prevalent that it is not uncommon for a child to be born afflicted with weak kid neys. If the child urin ates too often, if the urine scalds the flesh or if, when the child reaches an age when it should be able to control the passage, it is yet afflicted with bed-wetting, depend upon it. the cause of the difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment of these important organs. This unpleasant trouble is due to a diseased condition of the kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as most people suppose. Women as well as men are made mis erable with kidney and bladder trouble, and both need the same great remedy. The mild and the immediate effect of Swamp-Root is soon realized. It is sold by druggists, in fifty- cent and one dollar sizes.
