It is likely that the board of health will soon issue a few warnings. Maple City Self-Washing Soap has no competitor. There is nothing just as good. It is the best and the Best is the Cheapest always. Trade that is not worth asking for is not worth having; and so a great many people think when they fail to see a business man's advertisement in the local paper The river has been very low during the past few days, (almost low enough to please the the people of Wilmot) ow ing to lack of rain and high south windt which hold the water back in the lakes Hard coal is now selling at $7.76 pel ton. Better order your winter supply no^v. No telling what will happen be fore cold weather sets in again. Its a cinch that the price will advance soon. The Gospel of Tenderness and Gentle ness is the topic for the Y. P. C. U. service next Sunday evening. The meeting' will be led by Miss Agnes Perry. The hour of service will be 7:30 instead of 7:00 as Heretofore. Several celebrities about town have during the past week left all their whiskers with the barbers. It was a cruel cut in some cases, but with Postmarter Waite it was the "un- kindest cut of all." Oh, how could you do it ? The Asher (Oklahoma) Altruist has the following to say regarding two former residents: "C. C. Chapell and L. H. Owen returned from the big shoot at El Reno yesterday. Mr. Owen scored 46 birds out of a possible 50 for the state championship. The winner scored 47. Jacob Justen secured the contract for furnishing Ben Shilling's hotel this spring, and this week delivered about $800 worth of furniture, including rugs, bed room sets, chairs, tables, etc. One freight car would not hold the goods. Ben knows that it is not necessary to go to Chicago to get right prices. "Hark! Hark! the dogs do bark, the beggars are coming to town" can not be repeated in McHenry with any meaning this week. Few beggars ever show up here and stray dogs are as scarce as snow balls in but say have you noticed the independent and arro gant disposition of the cats of late? The morning service at the Uni- versalist church next Sunday will be an Emerson service in recognition of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Ralph Waldo Emerson which occurs on May 25. Selections from the writings, of Emerson will be read by Miss Agnes Perry and Miss Edna Story. It is estimated that there are over 20,000 homeless dogs in Chicago which will have to dodge the dog catchers this summer. Last year more than 11,000 dogs were killed in the city. The city ordinance says that they shall be muzzled or tied up from May 1 to November 1 each year. There has been ninety-one deaths from rabies in Chi cago in ten years. From present indications there will be a fine crop of potato bugs this year. In some places the young plants, only two or three inches high, are now covered with the insects. There is al ways something to worry the agrieul turalist, but, then, everything usually turns out pretty good in old Illinoip. When we are inclined to grumble, we should think of our less fortunate broth er in Kansas. The McHenry Dramatic club will pre sent the stirring war drama, "In the Shenandoah Valley," at Stoffel's hall, the evening of Decoration Day, May 80. Tbe scene of the play iB in the Shenan doah Valley during the exciting times of the late Civil war and there is action from start to finish, with an abundance of wit, humor and laughter. Patriotic songs will be sung by the company, with Miss Etta Simes as soloist. The club proposes to make this a most fit ting and proper entertainment for Me morial Day, Full particulars next week.
