A four horse 'bus load of young folkii from the vicinity of Woodstock passed through this village for a picnic to Pis- taqua Litke on Saturday last. Do not fail to go to the Universalist church and hear Miss Gavin read to-c morrow (Thursday) evening. i Col. Palmer of Nunda left ns laat week some sample stalks of rye tha# measure seven feet six inches in length with plump full heads, and which the colonel says is a fair sample of quite a number of acres on hie farm. Samuel Stocker, of this village, has discovered a remedy to prevent bug#: from destroying cucumber vines It i» simple but he says sure. It is merely to place green onion tops on and around ihe bill, when the bugs will let the cu- cumber«t entirely, alone. This is worth . remembering and trying, as these pesky,J little vermin often destroy the entire plant. The McHenry Cornet Band, by invi tation of Mr. Willey, made a visit to: Fox Lake on Saturday evening last, by, steamer "Excelsior," and treated the; pleasure seekers and residents of that vicinity to some of their choicest music. The Fox River Baae Ball club expect ed to have had a game with the Hamp shire club of Kane county on Monday! last, but for some cause the latter did not come to time. The steamer "Athlete," which is now owned at Wilmot, Wis., has yisited Mc Henry twice this week. In our report of the Old Settlers' meeting last week we inadverdantly ne- ' glected to mention the fact that Mrs.-. Gtllilan, the first white woman who set tled in McHenry county, was present and attracted much attention. Shbrt rides into the country the past two weeks has convinced us that while other towns are complaining of the in-, activity of their road commissioners,J McHenry has no cause for complaint. Last Thursday the citizens of Seneca, and Woodstock to the number of about sixty, marie a picnic excursion to Fox lake, taking the steamer, "Athlete," from this place, which Mr. Owen had taken pains to secure for them on that occasion. The Red Ribbon club of McHenry have resolved to celebrate the coming! anniversary of American Independence by a basket picnic celebration in Wheel-' er's grove, on the east banks of Fox; river, and invite all liberty loving peo-; pie. without regard to sect, nationality, political or religious creed, to join with them. . During his travelin about and afterwards his campaigi upon his claim, he encountered much bad water, which, together with tna severe heat, gave him a vci-y severe diar rhoea which seemed almost impossible tp check, and along in June the case be came so bad he expected to die. Onq. day one of his neighbors brought him] one small bottle of Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy as a last hope. A big dose was given him while he was rolling about on the ground in, great agony, and in a few minutes theF dose was repeated. The good effect off the medicine was soon noticed and with in an hour the patient was taking hi^ first sound sleep for a fortnight. That; one little bottle worked a complete cure,? and he cannot help but feel grateful.: The season for bowel disorder being atf, hand suggests this item. For sale by alt druggists.
