The Universalist church is being re- shingled. The property will be im proved in other ways this fall. An as phalt walk will be put in leading from the street to the church door. Three Plaindealer correspondents have been married during the summer. This should be a warning to the rest of the scribes who are enjoying single blessed ness, or perhaps an inducement to others who wish to enter the field. - The Illinois Concert and Comedy Co. is holding forth at Ringwood this week. They are too well known thru- out this part of the country to need in troduction. They now have a new com pany and are better than ever. Admis sion ten cents. A band of genuine gypsies passed thru McHenry last Wednesday. They were a greasy looking lot of fortune tellers and did not take well with the citizens of this place. The same band was driven out of Rockford, Belvidere and Marengo. J. F. Wisner and his gang of men were here Saturday and recoated the tar walks built last year. The recoat- ing is good for the walks, but when the tar and sand sticks to the shoes and is planted on the clean floor or carpet the tidy housewife says uncomplimentary things about tar walks. Joseph W. Freund, successor to John J. Miller, has contracted for a half col umn space in The Plaindealer, his first ad appearing this week. There comes a time even in the career of newspaper men when they must break away from the daily and weekly grind of business and seek recreation. The editor of this paper is no exception to the rule and the time has come when we must drop work for a week or two or succumb to nervous prostration.
