McHenry has at last been confronted with the electric light proposition. At the last meeting °f the village council that body was approached by Messrs. Ball and Doe of Chicago and 8. Reynolds of this place.' These gentlemen ask for .t twenty-five-year franchise. : The coun cil laid the matter over for one week lor consideration and investigation. Here is an opportunity that McHenry can not afford to let slip by without a strettttous effort ir iae'pa:^Tlie plant will be rtin by Water power, fur nished by Mr. Reynolds. Mr: Ball is a practical electrician and has installed many plants which are now in success ful operation. These gentlemen -have felt of the pulse of the village, as it were, and find tliat a'great majority of those interested are anxious that the board should take immediate and favor able action in the matter, provided that a franchise acceptable to the interests of the village and the promoters can be agreed upon. Every little village in the country now has its electric lighting system and McHenry will soon be classed with the o^er up-to-date munic ipalities, unless we are greatly mistaken in the gentlemen on the board. PROBATA hf.WS. 8®:: v--..r., --- purchased The Republican at )'f Genoa, 111.. to take possession the 12th 'f. of this month, I this week sever connec tion with The Plaindealer Co. For five I ' and one-half years my relations with ~ tiie company and with the business men || . of the city have been of the most pleas " ant nature. If at any time during the & i period I have made a personal enemy, I.l' "the fact remains a secret. Of course I am pleased to enter business for my- self, but at the same time it is with the ^ deepest regret that my family must leave the many friends in McHenry. To the advertisers and subscribers I wish to extend my sincere thanks for their liberal patronage. The business men have assisted me in publishing a paper second to none in the county, and I believe that The Plaindealer has been a good advertising medium for them. I feel confident that they will all con tinue to use the advertising columns of The Plaindealer and pull in the trade. Thru their steady. advertising and our constant appeals to the people the mail order business from McHenry has been reduced to a minimum during the past two or three years. I owe not a little to the correspond ents who have so liberally and faithful ly contributed to the news features of this paper, and my gratitude for their services is sincere. It is my desire that they all continue in the good work. With this issue Mr. F. G. Schreiner assumes the management of The Plain- dealer. The fact' that Mr. Schreiner will act as managing editor is a guaran tee that the paper will continue to keep in the front ranks with the. best in the - county. He knowB the newspaper busi- Ciiauiberlaiu'a Cough Keiue<ly .Aid* Nature. Medicines that aid nature are always most effectual. Chamberlain's Cough Remedy acts on this plan.
