John xv:12. For every cent spent in the United States for tea, coffee, cocoa, iced drinks, and soft beverages we spend nine cents in alcoholics. ' Sir Matthew Hale, as Chief Justice of England, has said that during his ad ministration of twenty years, he divided crime into five parts, and that four of them had been the issues of prod nets of excessive drinking.- Central railroad, (Georgia, Union Pa cific railroad, Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroad, Burlington railroad, New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad, Denver and Rio Grande' rail road, Western Union Telegraph Coi( Ithaca, New York, News Management, Cumberland Telephone Co. ot Tennessee, Marsbalj Fielfhttul Wanamaker, (largest dry gobdBstores in world). Swift & Co,, and all the largest railroad companies, business firms, insurance companies and banking institutions in the United States will not employ cigaret. smokers; A famous scientist avers that the to bacco habit is raging with all the vio lence of a contagious disease, because tobacco smokers force? the germs of the epidemic upon the surrounding atmos phere. For each smoker at least a hun dred persons are forced to inhale nico tine fumes. Infants breathe tobacco smoke, apprentices in work shops, young men in factories, the world is steeped in the fumes of tobacco. Instinct at first ^protests, then tolerates, and by a well know^law, tolerant*? begets desire, and Q n a l l y a n a l l b u t u n c o n t r o l l a b l e p a s s i o n . s t i l l If this is true we should be as wise as the Chinese who banish opintn smokers to out of the way dens. Like dope- fiends, tobacco worshipers should be relegated to special private smoking rooms and private promenades. Pois oning the air should be made a misde meanor. Avoid nicotine fnmes as the effluvia pf a small pox patient, is the warning given by Dr. Feljx Oswald. ' The Gooil Old Way. A severe cold or attack of la grippe is like a fire, the sooner yon combat, it the batter are your chances to overpower it. But few mothers in this age are willing to do the necessary work® reqnired to ive a good old fashioned reliable treat ment such as would be administered by their grandmothers, backed by Bos- chee's German Syrup, which was. al ways used in connection with the home treatment of colds and is still in greater household favor than any known reme dy. But even without the application of the old fashioned aids German Syr up will cure a severe cold in quick time. It will cure cold's in children, or grown people. It relieves the congested or gans, allays the irritation, and effect ively stops the cough. Any child will take it. It is invaluable in a household of children. Kill 900 Crows in Hnnt, Crow hunters estimate that 900 birds were slaughtered on Sunday, the opfen- ing day of the annual hunt participated in by the Elgin sportsmen. It is pre dicted that this year's score will run 100 behind that of last year, when 1200 birds were killed. At the city hall tonight, says Monday Elgin Courier,Capt. Kemler and Capt. Wardlow will marshal their forces and^onnt the crows. The losing side will pay for the dinner at the gun club grounds next Sijnday. The pests received qnite a scare this afternoon when Lonis Freeman started ont with his shot gun. He promised to come back alive. Thus far no accidents have been reported. " Terrific Race With Death. "Death was fast approaching," writes Ralph F. Fernandez, of Tampa, Fla., describing his fearful race with death, "as a result of liver trouble and heart disease, which had robbed me of sleep and of all interest in life. I had tried many different doctors and several med icines, bnt got no benefit, until I began to use Electric Bitters. So wonderful was their effect, that in three days I felt like a new man. and today I am cured of all my troubles." Guaranteed at N. H. Petesch's and Julia A Story's, Me Henry, and G. W. A, Brady's musical re view "All 'Round Chicago." This •piece, which is a "musical topsV-turvy " and which h^s startled the community by its fidelity to Chicago life and people, has been played to audiences that have tested the enormous capacity of Mc- Vicker's, the largest theatre in Chicago outside of the Auditorium. The reasons for the<$>opularity of the new piece are not far to seek * The, scenery is espe cially attractive and atflhe play progress es the andience is ta^en to the College Inn, to the Andito^imii, the lake front near the Annex, oh State street, oppo site the new pout-office arid onto the stage of McVicker's where a burlesque of-"Way Down East" is .the convulsing feature. Besides these varied scenes "All 'Round Chicago" has some twenty mtisical numbers which are being whis tled and which arouse tremendous en thusiasm. The newspaper critics were delighted with the piece. The Jonrnal tsaid 'Nobody in Chicago ought to miss it." The Post said "A bigger show than tbiB review was never offered for a dollar." The Record Herald remarked "A hilarious entertainment for a hilari ous people," and so on through the list. There are one hundred and fifty peo ple, mostly girls, and pretty ones at that, they wear 500 or more costumes and the great feature of the play, the Eight Moulin Rogue girls, direct from Paris, in their famous "dance in the air" has caught the fancy of the town The Secret of Suceeiw. Forty million bottles of August Flow„- er sold in the United States alone since its introduction! And the demand for growing. Isn't this a fine showing of success? Doesn't it prove that August Flower has bad unfailing success in the cure of indigestion and dyspepsia--the two greatest enemies of health and happiness? Does it not af ford the best evidence that August Flower is a sure specific for all stouiach and intestinal disorders?--that it has proved itself the best of all liver regu lators? August Flower has a matchless record of over thirty-five years in cur ing the ailing millions of these distress ing complaint8--a success that is becom ing wider in its scope every day, at home and abroad, as the fame of Aug ust Flower spreads. Sometimes, a cough hangs on so long, you feel a,s if nothing but dyna mite would cure it. Z. T. Gray, of Cal houn, Ga., writes: "My wife had a very aggravated cough, which kept her awake nights. Two physicians cotild not help her; so she took t>r. King's New Discovery for Consumption, Coughs and Colds, which eased her caugh, gave her sleep, and finally cured her."
