Tt was a huge task, to undertake the cure of such a bad case of kidney dis ease, as that of C. F. Collier, of Chero kee, la., bnt Electric Bitters did it. He writes: "My kidneys were so far gone, I could not sit on a chair without a cushion; and suffered from dreadful backache, headache, and depression. In Electric Bitters, however, I found a cure, and by them was restored to per fect health. I recommend this great tonic medicine to all with weak kidneys, liver or stomach. Guaranteed by N. H. It is needless to say that we are only too well pleased to have as capable a physician again with ns and that we hope he will remain here indefinitely. The next meeting of the Ladies' Aid society of the M. E. church will meet at the home of Mrs. James Westlake, June 29. The last meeting al Mrs. Oxtoby's, June 15, was well attended, $8. 75 being netted. This Aid society has been formed but one month and is able to feel quite encouraged at the in terest shown and help given by ihe pub lie. The object is to raise money to make possible services in the church every Sunday. We have a fine minister, Mr. Bly of Chicago an evangelical work er who is striving to the utmost to es tablish a permanent interest here. While the active workers are not many in number we feel that nearly every one in the community would much rather the church could be kept open and filled each Sabbath and that it may exert a great influence for good, than that the pulpit should be left va cant as it has so many times. Come to to the services. We are sure you will be interested and help the work in any way you can. ^Remember, we mean everyone, whatever your faith; you will be most welcome and not only to hear the sermon but to join in the Snnday school and Christian Endeavor servic es. The Sunday school has a good at tendance and we want still more, every one that can possibly come. Remember the hours: Sunday school at ten o'clock followed by preaching; Christian En deavor meeting at seven o'clock, fol lowed by preaching. Keepinc Hoo»e In St. Peteribarr. In St. Petersburg housekeeping costs more, it is said, than in the other Euro pean capitals. To begin with, nothing Can be bought without bargaining, and those who are skillful in the art have tbe advantage over their neighbors. If you know how to get on the soft side of a Russian tradesman and ply him with proverbs and jokes you can cut his price down to tbe narrowest margin of profit; otherwise he simply robs you. Indeed, he cannot well do Otherwise, because not only a trick of the trade, but an unwritten law, obliges him to ask for his wares from 30 to 40 per cent more than he expects. He himself would be astonished if you would take him at his word. Then, again, of course, a great deal depends on the choice of shops. One of the most satisfactory ways of buying provisions Is not to vis-" it any shops, but to repair to the open air markets. In certain public squares of the capitals little stalls are fixed up every morning, and here fruit, vegeta bles, meat, poultry, hardware and hab erdashery can be bought up to noon. But at tbe strike of 12 every booth and stall vanishes. The Black of tfce Ijw, / The invariable blackness of the pupil of tbe pye was a puzzle to scientific men until Professor Helinholtz showed it to be the necessary effect of refrac tion. Sufficient rays are reflected from the bottom of the eye to reader visible the parts there situated, but since these reflected rays in emerging from tbe eye must traverse the same ocula media through which they passed in entering the eye it is evident that they must undergo the same refraction which they underwent as entering rays, only In an opposite direction. The re sult of this Is that the paths of the emerging and entering rays coincide* and the former will therefore return to the source whence as incidental rays they originally started. There is noth ing in the pupil to reflect light--in fact, It resembles a window looking into a dark room. Very Low Excursion Katei t* San frtn- ciaco, Lot Angel**, Portland, Taconia, Seattle, Ktc.
