The baseball season was formally opened at trie local ball park last San- day afternoon, at which time the Mc- H«nry Bines administered to the Wood stock White Sox the first defeat which that team has suffered in Mc Henry for two seasons, thus wiping out the hoodoo Judging front the attendance at the game last Sunday the season of 1906 ought to be a most successful one. About three hundred stood for two honrs in the cold tq witness* the gauie and were well repaid for turning out. The game was not marked with any sensational playing, but a few very good plays were pulled off by the home team. The day was far from being an ideal one for baseball which undoubtedly accounts for the numerous errors, especially on the part of the visiting team. ' Trie story of the game is something like this: McHenry started trouble for tbe visitors right from the start, scoring two runs in the iirst round. Scully, who had tbe extreme honor of being the first man to face a visiting pitcher for McHenry, cut three large gaps into the atmosphere and retired to the green lawn; F. Thnrlwell, the next man to wield the willow, was out on a fly to short; Bending, who won fame in Mc-. Henry as a twirler during the past two reasons, was next and waited just long enough to get free transportation to the initial sack; he immediately stole sec ond and came home on a neat single by fatty Bosworth. Bosworth duplicated Bonding's feat, arriving safely at the second station; he came home when Buss made a timely connection with the little sphere. The inning was brought to a finish when Good sent an easy fly to Markle. V During the second aftd third rounds the locals secured two large goose eggs, but in the fourth the first inning feat was- duplicated. Good, the first man up in this inning was safe at first when Markle let the former's grounder get away from him; Good Btole second while Heimer was retired on a strikeout; J. Thnrlwell was next put out via Howard to Burns, the base runner going to third on the deal; Tower went to first by being hit by a pitched ball, Scully drew a base on balls. With the bases fullF. Thnrlwell was called upon to bring them in and in this, (assisted by the visitors' left fielder, who dropped an easy fly from Thurl- well's bat) he succeeded, wringing in the men stationed at 3nd and third. Bend ing ended the inning by sending a long fly to Wee Willie Riley in the center garden. Tbe fifth inning proved valueless to the locals while in the sixth they put on the finishing touches by sending three runners over the rubber, the scores com ing thru a base on balls, a single, home run assisted by an error. This pat a stop to the run getting for the Bines and it proved to be a great plenty. Tbe visitors did not score nntil the fifth inning, during which round they succeeded in pushing a runner over the plate, a base on balls and an error doing the work. Their next and last tally was handed to them by a base on balls and a timely little bingle by Johnny Riley in the seventh inning. all the White Sox could do. THE SCORE McHENRY. Scully, 2nd b .. .... The good ones have long continued sale; the poor ones have short life and soon leave the market. If we had to depend entirely upon phy sicians and druggists it "would be expen sive and very inconvenient at times, es pecially in the country and at night when neither could be conveniently reached. Hanly for trustees, and James B. Perry for president were unanimously re-elected. There being no opposition a very light vote was cast. During the past year these gentlemen have served in their respective capacities in a way that was highly satisfactory ti the people, which undoubtedly accounts for their not having opposition this year. The McHenry school, as everyor.f knows, was never in better standing, which speaks well for the school board and the excellent corps of instructors. Let trie good work go on.
