Adopted by Th« Illinois Farmer*' Institute •tits Recent Convention. ILLINOIS HIGHWAY COMMISSION. Whereas, The 44th general assembly created the highway commission which was dnly organized according tt> law, and Whereas, Proper road construction and bridge building is a profession in itself, requiring greater skill than is usually obtainable locally, and Whereas, The office of the state high way commission is equipped with com petent engineers whose duty it is to furnish free of cost, upon application, information and estimates relative to the construction of roads and bridges, and Whereas, It is patent to everyone who has studied the road and bridge question that hundreds and thousands of dollars are wasted annually on the roads of this state, a vast sum whioh could be largely saved or applied more judicious ly if expended according to engineering principles, and Whereas, An unfounded prejudice exists in sections of the state and an un warranted fear that said commission desires to burden the taxpayers with a heavy debt by constructing hard roads, and Whereas, The directors of the Illinois Farmers' institute, thru its highway committee have carefully investigated the aim, scope and personnel of said highway commission and find the aim a laudable one, the scope properly restrict ed, and the personnel of the commission above reproach; therefore, be it Resolved, That the State Farmers' institute in convention assembled heart ily commends the state highway com mission to the confidence and loyal support of the people of the state. FORESTRY INVESTIGATION. Appreciating the importance of our timber products and its diminishing supply, the Illinois Farmers' institute recommends careful investigation of the forestry question as to the produc tion, rate of growth and profitableness of timber raising as a farm crop, more especially as affecting the non tillable soils of the Btate. FREE SEED DISTRIBUTION OPPOSED. Resolved that the Illinois Farmers' institute favors the experimentation with Mid the distribution of choice new varieties of seeds and plants by the United States department, but it is unalterably opposed to the congressional free seed distribution as now practioed and authorized by law. CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL DISTRICTS. Believing that the country child is entitled to equal privileges in the prep aration for life's work as the city chil dren, therefore, Resolved, That the Illinois Farmers' institute request the legislature to enact such legislation that when two or more rural school districts have consolidated tbe boards of directora may nee school funds for free transportation of pupils when the same shall be so ordered by a majority vote of thelegal xoteaM>^a*id consolidated district GAME LAWS. % Resolved, That the game laws of Illi nois should be so amended that it be nnlawfnl to kill any quail or pheas ant for a period of five years; that hHn ting on private premises without the permis sion of the owner shall be a mia^omAWn- or and the penalty shall be the as that for hunting without a license; that all game killed should be carried in open view and that hunting a&jtjRfcare in Illinois on Sunday shall void the license of the hunter. INVESTIGATE INJURIOUS PLANT IN SECTS. Resolved, That we endorse the bill now under consideration by the state legislature, making an appropriation of 125,000 for the further investigation of insects injurious to plant life and animal industries. STATE FOOD COMMISSION. -» Inasmuch as the State Farmers' in stitute recognizes the excellent results accomplished by the State Food com mission in the past year in the enforce ment of the laws pertaining to their work, be it Resolved, That we signify our ap preciation approving the efforts be ing uiade by the State Food to have the present legislators »o Not Olt«i WHO SMMM The first warm days of spring bring with them a desire to get out and enjoy the exbilirating air and sunshine. Chil dren who have been housed up all win ter are brought out and yon wonder where they all came from. The heavy winter clothing is thrown aside and many shed their flannels. Then a cold wave comes along and people say that grip is epidemic. Golds at this season are even more dangerous than in mid winter, as there is much inore danger of pneumonia. Take Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, however, and you will have nothing to fear. It always cures, and we have never known a cold to result in pneumonia when it is used. It is pleasant and safe to take. Children like it. For sale by all druggists. ^ Kept Andlenc* In Continual R6«r. Nunda Herald: "The Prince of tii- ars," presented by the McHenry Dra matic club at Concordia hall, packed the house and the Boyal Neighbors of America, under whose auspices it was given, cleared about $11. The comedy kept the audience in a continual roar of laughter, all the characters taking their parts splendidly. Especially worthy of mention was the work of Mrs. H. F. Beebe as "Mrs. Gillibrand," the nagging and inquisitive mother-in-law; also the beautiful and vivacious "Rosa Colum- bier," introducing some highly appre ciated vocal solos, as played by l^iss Lillie Heimer. At the close of the per formance the members of the club were served with refreshments at Coqui- lette's. ; • How to Remain Young.; : To continue young in health and strength, do as Mrs. N. F.
