The largest namber of indictments to be quashed at a single time in the his tory of Lake eounfcy were quashed Mon day when .Tndge Donnelly in circuit court quashed the seventeen cases against the Fox Lake men who last fall were charged with running blind pigs. It is recalled the action, started by the Law and Order league, was started under a new action (that of conducting public nuisances) and it was expected by the league that once and for all the victory would be complete, for, if con victed under that aot, it would mean that their places woald be closed for good, the law providing a big fine and imprisonment for future violations. However, the saloon keepers made a hard fight thru their counsel, Orvis and Edwards, and the result was that the judge quashed the whole bunch of in dictments. Many reasons for the reqnest to quash were advanced by the attorneys, but the chief one was that the indictments did not allege the exact places where the mqn were charged with operating the blind pigs. The disposition of the cases in . this manner is taken by the saloon men as a big victory and the reform element feels much broken up by it. The saloon men, since this action was started, have all taken out licenses at Fox Lake under the new village aot and therefore they rest easy now, because they cannot see a similar action in the future. „ .
