Earl Wadhams and Oscar Murray of Chicago are passing the week at Pis takee Bay. Mr. and Mrs, Robert Sutton and chil­ dren of Solon were McHenry visitors Wednesday. Mrs. Fred Dahlke of Marengo visited her sister, Mrs. Fred Kamholz, the first of the week. S. B. Hany has retnrned from Flor­ ida, where he has been spending the past several weeks. Mrs. Mary L. Cobb of Woodstock vis­ ited with relatives and friends here a few days this week. Miss Christina Pint of Chicago spent Sunday bere as the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Pint. George Harding and family of Elgin are spending the week *t their summer home on the Fox river near this place. A. K. Nordquist hag severed his con­ nections with the Fred Rueping com­ pany at Fond du Lac, Wis., and is now enjoying a much needed rest with home folks here. ( N. A. Huemann, F. O. Gans, John Barbian, R. I. Overton, Wm. Althoff, C. M. Adams and Mrs. C. G. Frett were among the Chicago passengers this (Thursday) morning. The Reasner family of Chicago, who last summer occupied a cottage on the west shore of Fox river north of the Orchard Beach hotel, but who have since disposed of their river property, have rented the Fred Block residence on Water street and will move into same soon. On account of the storm the concert by the Girls' Glee club Of the McHenry public school advertised to take place on Friday evening laBt was postponed until hut night, when the program tooic place at the Universalist church. A good crowd turned out and listened to one of the best programs ever rendered by a school club in McHenry. Among the department heads of the present census undertaking we note the name and face of Le Graud Powers, who will be remembered by many read­ ers as a former pastor of the Universal­ ist church here. Mr. Powers is head of the agricultural division- and is new a resident of Washington, having been connected with the census bureau for a number of years. The postoftice department calls on the postmaster to notify pfetrons of the rnral delivery to paint their mail/ boxes and the pos t s t o wh ich they a r e a t ­ tached a pnre white color. This will not only protect the box and post from damage by the weather, bnt will give all boxes a uniform color and serve to fix their identity in all parts of the conntry as United States mail boxes. The department also orders the patrons to pat their names and box numbers on the boxes in black letters abont two inches high. Road officials in the var­ ious towns are directed to paint apon the post or boxes located at cross roads the names of the towns or villages to which the cross road leads, with an in* dicator showing the direction.
