We are reliably informed that the people of McHenry have secured an ab­ solute promise from Col. I C. Copley of Aurora to extend his gas mains into McHenry and furnish the people of this village with gas in the near future. Not a minute should be lost when a child shows symptoms of croup. Digging the basement for the new home to be erected by Peter P. Rother­ mel has been commenced The new residence will be built on Water street just north of the N. E. Barbian home. Part of the lake lies on the railroad right of way while the balance is on the pnblic high­ way. The lake is anything but a vil­ lage beautifier and the attention of the proper officials is called to the matter. The many friends of Mrs. John Dam- gard, a former resident of this village, but of late an inhabitant of Ottawa, 111., is dead at her home in the latter named city as the resnlt of fatal burns received from a gasoline stove last Sun­ day evening. Up to the time of going to press we have not learned the partic­ ulars of the sad affair. The regular monthly meeting of the Knights of Columbus takes plaoe at Stoffel's hall this (Thursday) evening. County fair Well Attended. The annual McHenry county fair that was held at Woodstock last week was very well attended and as a resnlt the event should have been a financial suc­ cess this year. The exhibits, especially the live stock, were more numerous and better than has been the case for some years. There were fort)-one bead*|of cattle and seventy-six horses. The dis­ play of dairy cattle was larger than usnal. Nine extra pens were made for sheep, and thirty-five additional pens were bnilt for the hogs. A new pre mium was added this year for the best display that eonld all be raised on one farm. The displays were exceptionally fine. Clarence O'Cock of Union received the first premium. Mrs. Edgar Barn of Ringwood the second and Walknp Brothers of Crystal Lake tbe third. The Lash of a Fiend would have been about as welcome to A. Cooper of Oswego, N. At Petesch's, The cement blocks for the new boat factory that will occupy a site on the «ast shore of Fox river, a short distance north of the bridge, are being mann- factnred. Grading and scraping is also under way. The building will be con­ structed by the Hunter-Weckler Boat company and it is expected to be ready for occupancy the first of the year.
