The occasion was the sixty seventh birthday anniversary of Mr. Miller. A company of relatives and friends tendered Mrs. Wm. Oeffling a very pleasaut surprise at her home here last Saturday evening, the occasion being the forty-fifth anniversary of her birth day. The surprise was a complete one to say the least and it was several min utes after the invaders arrived at the home before the victim fully realized grhat it all meant. However, she later proved herself equal to the occasion by providing an evening's entertainment that sent her guests home with light h^irts and a feeling that they had been well paid for their call. Myron Francisco, wife and daugh~ ter, Miss Corla, were Sunday visitors with Warren Francisco and sister, Miss Ammie. Tuesday, May 25, a genuine rainy day, which will delay corn planting again, but will benefit meadows and pasture lands very much. Earl Sherman, wife and children and Clifford Sherman and family drove to Solon Sunday and spent the day with their cousins, Mrs. Myrtle Sanborn and husband. There was very little corn planted in this section until this week. Farm ers thought the ground too cold and wet. Some farmers that had planted have the work to do over again. KINDLY ASK FOR THEM J. C. Bickler, proprietor of the Mc Henry House, informs us that some miscreant entered his flower beds dur ing last Sunday night and stole a large number of flowers. The guilty party not only committed a petty theft, but also ruined one or two beds, which in the past two summers have made the resort a place of beauty. The hustling proprietor of the hotel wishes us to state for him that he is only too willing to give any desiring same a bouquet of flowers, but he insists upon doing the picking himself, lest the beds be spoiled and stems broken. GYPSIES IN TOWN McHenry received her first visitation from gypsies on Saturday afternoon of last week. As usual, the women made the rounds of t he business places in the lower end of town, but their efforts at fortune telling and begging were met with a cold shoulder. Why the authorities will sit Idly by and watch these undesirables go about the village in quept of handouts is more than we can upderstand. In most towns they are not allowed to go from house to house as they do -here and we don't see wiry McHenry doesn't put a stop to the practice. v NOTICE STATE OF ILLINOIS, # c County of McHenry, J ' Sealed bids'will be received on June 3, 1915, at 1:00 o'clock at the office of tpwn clerk of McHenry township at McHenry, Illinois, for repairing of Johnsburg bridge.
