The day passed off in a most-order­ ly manner. Over 350 votes were cast in the Mc- Henry precinct at the noon hour. A number of automobiles were kept busy both here and at Richmond. The different candidates for office put in an exceptionally busy day. Both the wet and dry elements had their representatives at both polling places. The McHenry voters employed at the Oliver typewriter factory at Woodstock were brought here via automobile. Two years ago the drys gave the Ringwood precinct a majority of 77, while this year the same precinct went wet by 11 votes. Altho over twice as many votes 'were cast in McHenry precinct as in Ringwood, our judges and clerks had their work cleaned up first. The wets put up their closing argu­ ments at Johnsburg and the Central opera house last Sunday afternoon and evening. Mrs. Minona S. Jones and Prof. Frank Midney were the speakers. ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS^ McHenry Highs Win Championship at Crystal Lake ' The McHenry high school basket ball team were crowned county cham­ pions at the basket ball tournament, whujh came to a close at the Crystal Like gymnasium last Friday even­ ing, the McHenry heroes taking the deciding game from Crystal Lake on that night by' the close score of 21 to 20. /. The game was fiercely contested thruout and for awhile it looked* as if McHenry was in for a trouncing. Miller, McHenry's star center, was put out of the game thru an injury received during the first few minutes of play, but was able to get back in­ to the fray during the second half. Crystal Lake put up one of the most stubborn defenses that she had shown this season and ljlcllenry had to use every ounce of strength that she possessed to pull the game out of the fire, which up to the last few minutes of play seemed lost for our side. While the members of the team are worthy of all the praise that is be­ ing showered upon them, no small amount of credit is due Coach Dorr, who had charge of the team thrilout the playing season. The manner in which he whipped the team into shape for a championship season is little short of marvelous. At the be­ ginning of the season followers of the sport were "doping" it out to themselves that McHenry had very little chance of winning the county championship, as only one of last year's regulars was included in the line-up, this being. Richardson. How­ ever, Coach Dorr went to work with the boys and before many days h^d passed he was satisfied that McHenry would be counted in the running. McHenry succeeded in defeating every team in McHenry ^county with the exception of Harvard and Hunt­ ley. The former is considered a weak team and McHenry would have had an easy time disposing of them had the two teams met. The only regretable fact/is that the season came to a close without Mc­ Henry and Huntley fighting it out However, in view of the fact that Huntley refused to enter' the tourna­ ment, McHenry is given the undis­ puted right to the championship.
