Bishop, Windthorat Maeiuterehor The Windthorst Maennerchor of St. Alphonsus' church in Chicago, who held their annual outing at Johnsburg last Saturday, Sunday arn^ Monday, Sept. 2, 3 and 4, entertained the people of St. John's parish with a most selected musical program. They sang at the eight o'clock church services Sunday morning, which was most thankfully enjoyed by the whole parish. Their splendid­ ly trained voices seemed to be at their best in these sacred hymns of praise and adoration. Few, if any, could hold the attention of their prayer- books, as their hearts were lifted up with thrills of spiritual joy and glad­ ness. As one o person remarked: "Women seem to excel men in their piety, but men in sacred singing ex­ cel all piety." In the evening at the parish hall, when the doors opened for the even­ ing concert the fame of their sacred musical numbers at church services in the morning attracted a large and appreciative audience that filled the hall. The entire program, al! mas­ ter pieces of musical art, pleased Im­ mensely. Encores were cheered re­ peatedly. "Auf Wiedersehen" re­ echoed tSN" chearjL of the whole par­ ish. • c? RIDGEFIELD A. Dike, Mrs. Nash and Miss Ashton were Crystal Lake callers the latter part of last week. Mr. and Mrs. H. S^nne and daugh­ ter of Crystal Lake were Sunday callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Colby. Church Notes The senior choir will give a concert at Greenwood this Friday evening. There will be preaching, services next Sunday evening in place of the regular C. E. services. The members of the choir enjoyed a roast in Mr. Walkup's woods after practice last Friday evening. Next Sunday morning will be com­ munion Sunday. The pastor invites all christians to partake of the Lord's supper at this time. v Mr. Parker's father will be here to conduct the services both morning and evening next Sunday. Celine, at Mt. Car- mel, Dubuque, Iowa. Mrs. Earl Wilcox and daughter, Eleanor, of Woodstock spent Satur­ day and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Riley. Mr. and Mrs. M.' Knox and daugh­ ter, Mabel, accompanied by Mrs. John McCarthy and Miss Ellen Doherty of McHenry, autoed to Lake county Sun­ day and visited Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Benehan and daughter. OSTEND F. E. Martin and C. E. Sherman are threshing clover for J. Cornwell. Roy Hobart is on the sick list, not considered dangerously so, but unfit for labor. Mr. Cooley will leave his farm this fall. Mr. Campbell will move there in the spring. Sherman brothers have purchased a silo filler and commenced work at home Tuesday. The fair days of 1916 are past Nearly every family here attended one or two days. Frank Kaiser recently purchased a new corn binder and a silo filler. He has commenced filling his silo. Henry Hobart and Warren Francis­ co sold and shipped from Woodstock to parties in Wisconsin last Wednes­ day a feed cutter. Mrs. Steven Kaiser and family of Woodstock and Carl Herdrick and family of McHervry were calUftff on relatives here Sunday. The Ostend pupils have enjoyed thUr long vacation and now wiii take up their work with Miss Mary Bons- lett of West McHenry for teacher. Mr. Cooley and family hope to get moved to McHenry this week in the new home recently purchased on Wau- kegan street so as to be nearer his work. McHenry. RINGWOOD Charles Stephenson has his new bam completed. Miss Agnes Dodge and mother went to Antioch Wednesday. Edith McCannon and son, Lyle, vis­ ited Miss Bell Cairns near Richmond Tuesday. The Masons and Eastern Star held a picnic at the Bay Sunday. Several of our people attended. Mrs. Callie Rainey entertained her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Saunders, •df Chicago the past week. t • Starr Brink and Bert McCannon and families spent Sunday afternoon at Ed. Pierce's near Woodstock. Herbert Eames and family of Chi' cago were week end visitors with his cousins, H. W. Allen and wife. The first entertainment of our ly- ceum course will be held in M. W. A. hall Friday evening of this week, Sept. 15. It is entitled the harp en­ tertainers, consisting of two artists, Alice Genevieve Smith, harpist, and Helen Norton in character readings. Mrs. Allen received a letter from Mrs. Straub last week saying that Rev. Straub had returned from New York, where he has been for the past five months for treatment for a can­ cerous growth on his face. The treatment was successful. His many friends will be pleased to hear of his recovery. Miss E.
