Mr ,'5.'-. vf-.-V Thursday, March 22, 1917 * 7l: ANNUAL MEETING Election of Officers of County Soil Improvement Association One of the best meetings eyer held by "the McHenry County Soil Im­ provement association took place at Woodstock on Wednesday of last week, March 14. In spite of the ex­ tremely bad roads and weather condi­ tions, nearly 150 farmers gathered for the meeting. . The meeting was called to order by President Whipple of Dunham town­ ship. Reports of the last annual meeting and the financial statement were read and approved. The finan­ cial statement foi- the past year was given by the secretary and same ap­ proved. x- The annual election of officers for tile following year v.as as follows: President, H. E. Whipple; vice pres­ ident, Wm. Bonslett; secretary, A. M. Shelton; treasurer, Fremont Hoy. A board of directors v>as appointed, as follows: Riley, N. H. Stanley; Marengo, J. Olbrich; Dunham, F. S. Gay; Chemung, Jacob Olbrich; Alden, J. 0. Tupper; Hartland, Will Forrest; Seneca, Philip Andrews; Coral, W. H. Wilkie; Grafton, J. E. Williams; Dorr, Herbert Kiltz; Greenwood, Frank Barber; Hebron, Robt. Stewart; Rich­ mond, Bti. Turner; Nunda, Clyde Wingate; Algonquin, Harry Ford; McHenry, S. W. Smith; Burton, Geo; Richardson. Turner. > Mr. Billisborrow, assistant state Reader, gave a short address on the work relative to the county organ­ ization. Rev. Lonergan of Gary was called upon and responded with a few appreciated remarks regarding the association. Rev. Lonergan is plan­ ning on starting a school for farm boys in the vicinity of Cary that the farm boy may become more familiar with the business side of the farm life. The afternoon session" was called to order at 1:30 p. m. Rev. C. Wilson, pastor of the Methodist church of Woodstock, gave the invocation. The Woodstock male quartet and the high school glee club gave many splendid selections. Mr. Readhimer, county advisor for Kane county, discussed the use of rock phosphate and lime­ stone for northern Illinois soils in the relation to the soil fertility. Mr. Eckhardt, county advisor for DeKalb county, followed Mr. Read­ himer, explaining some of the things which have been done in DeKalb county thru the county association, also some of the woj*k which has been accomplished on the county farm. The boys' and girls' club work was discussed by Mr. -and Mrs. Gafke in the afternoon and the variety of corn to be grown by the boys and girls in McHenry county was voted upon by the members at this meeting and it was unanimously agreed that Murdock Yellow Dent corn was the best variety to be grown under all conditions in the county and the county advisor was directed to pur­ chase such for use in the county.
