Misses Lillian and Hanna Yanke are spending the week at Crystal Lake, attending the teachers' insti­ tute. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett and sons, George and Milton, of Chicago were week end guests in the home of J. Pester. Wm. Cornish was called to Chicago Wednesday by the serious illness of his wife. Her many friends will be pleased to hear she is much improved at present. Mr. and Mrs. Earle Monear, Mr. and Ikfrs. R. R. Turner, Misses Flor­ ence Thomas and Vera Turner mo- ogenin Walter Rosan -of Chicago was here last Sunday, looking for a suitable cottage to rent for the summer sea­ son. Mrs. Mike Pitzen has returned to Chicago, where she has entered the German hospital in the hope that she may find relief from her present trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Galpin and son of Chi­ cago passed Sunday, at their summer home here and incidentally did* a little cleaning preparatory to $he ening of the summer season. and Mrs. Jacob R. Jus ten en­ tertained a company of friends at their farm home here last Sunday. Those present were: Messrs. and Mesdames Joe Smith of Spring Grove; Jos. P. Miller of Ringwood; John Meyers, Ben H. Stilling and J. J. Freund of McHenry. The famous Stilling summer resort property here has been sold and the purchasers are having the place thoroly cleaned and placed m readi ness for the opening of the summer season. We are informed that the new owners of the hotel are hustlers and that they are looking forward to an exceptionally busy season at Pis- takee. Wm. Small of Chicago passed the week end at his cottage here. While out he did considerable cleaning. Among other things he did was to rake up the dry leaves and set fire to them On Monday morning as Jake Miller of Johnsburg was passing the place on his way to work he noticed smoke coming from the direction of the Small cottage and upon investi­ gation he found that a wood pile was burning. He succeeded in putting out the blaze without much trouble. However, this should be a warning to others. It. just so happened that the wind was in the right direction, else the entire place might hate been consumed by the flames. JOHNSBURG Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Klapperich were callers in town Sunday. Miss Helen Adams spent Thursday in the metropolitan city. Many from McHenry attended the funerals here last Friday morning. Joe £ngeln and John Oeffling of McHenry were callers in town Tues- day. Henry Nell returned to Woodstock this week after an illness, of about three weeks. Arthur Adams boarded the train for Chicago Monday morning id look over the new buzz wagons. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Bishop of Mc­ Henry spent Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Freund. Many from here attended the fu­ neral of Mrs. Math. S. Freund at Mc­ Henry last Thursday morning. Joe Hettermann, the Ford dealer here, announces the sale of two Ford touring cars the fore part of thjs week. Misses Eleanor Phalin, Florence and Frances Knox are attending the McHenry county teachers' institute at Crystal Lake this week. The Barreville and Terra Cotta schools are closed this week and the teachers, Misses Alice Noone and Gertrude Klein,, are attending "insti­ tute.
