The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary society will meet in the church parlors Tuesday, June 11. It is desired that all members be present. Everyone welcome. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Reed was opened Saturday evening to cele­ brate the twenty-first birthday of Geo. Johnson. He remains another yea£| The Memorial day exercises wejp good and largely attended. V. S. Lumley of Woodstock gave an inter­ esting talk. His address to the sold­ iers of '61 and '65 and of present con­ ditions was good. The McHenry band furnished good music. Singing by the school children was good. Richard B. Walsh of McHenry gave a good talk on our part to do in this world war and paid beautiful tribute to the mothers of today. The decora­ tions in the hall were left from the evening before. JOHNSBURG The carnival at McHenry attracted quite a number of our young people last week. Peter M. Freund and daughters, Helen and Catherine, of McHenry were visitors here last Thursday. Cards were received from Frank Mathieu last week. They were mailed at Portland, Ore. This week the fa­ mous juggler will show at San Fran­ cisco, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Debrecht have returned from the south, having rent­ ed the Mrs. Geo. Nell property at Co­ lumbia park, near the river bridge. They have opened a small store and will also cater to summer resorters. The Johnsburg chapter of the American Red Cross society will meet at the parish hall here at two o'clock on Friday afternoon of this week. Work will begin in real earnest at this meeting and it is hoped that all mem­ bers wilj be on hand. The Johnsburg ladies ire greatly enthused over the Red Cross work and the chapter will, no doubt, give a splendid account of itself in the future. OSTEND This is the last week of school for this term- Frank Kaiser brought hit Wife home from Elgin Tuesday. Henry Hobart, wife and son, Roy, visited relatives at Alden Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Cornwell entertained Gzr daughter «nd husbsnd Greenwood Sunday. Farmers are planting their last pieces of corn and some are working their first planting. We are all hop ing for a corn crop this year. It may be necessary for our food, as the boys over there will need most of the wheat. A letter from Glynn Francisco to his mother states he is still in Paris and well. She also received one from her son, Leslie, who is in England. He, too, is well. He reports his weight as 1&6 pounds. He sent his picture, tut is not thought natural. He has more flesh than they ever saw him carry. Notes of Soldier Boya. Pvt. Wm. Schaefer of Jefferson Bar­ racks has been promoted to corporal and in a letter home says he is en­ joying life as a soldier., John May, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. May of this village, is now at Jeffer­ son Barracks, Mo., but expects to be transferred to some other camp soon. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Meyers of this village received a card from their nephew, Al. Schuenemann of Wauke- gan, telling of his safe arrival over- Jos. H. Feffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Feffer, has sent word that he has arrived saifely "over there." Mr. and Mrs. Feffer have two sons now in the service across the waters, Nicklous . Meyers, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.
