Said motion was seconded by Supr. Ward and carried. Supr. Harrison called the attention of the board to the fact that the sum of $13,000.00 had been levied and collected by the County for the purpose of paying the County's portion of the construction of State <»Aid roads c for the current year, that on account of the war no roads had been constructed, and that said sum was now in the hand of the treasurer, and moved that said amount be set aside and by the treasurer loaned at the best advantage properly secured so that it would be available when needed for the purpose for which it was raised and in the meantime be earning Interest for the County. Sunderlin, fuel administrator for this County, appeared before the board and stated that the appropriation heretofore made by this board for the payment of the actual expenses of himself and his assistants in the administration of the office had been exhausted, that the work would still have to continue for some time and requested that the board appropriate an additional sum of $100 to be used in the payment of actual expenses of himself and his assistants. Anderson as County Phvsician for the year one thousand nine hundred and nineteen to attend the patients at the Alms House at thr^e dollars and fifty cents per visit, he to furnish his own medicine. Your committee would also recommend that Gardner Knapp be reappointed superintendent of said Alms House and Farm, and that his salary be fixed at the sum of twelve hundred dollars ($1,200.00) per annum, and his wife, three hundred dollars ($300.00) per annum, for running the said Alms House and Farm and for the proper care of all inmates who may be in the house on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and nineteen or may be admitted during the said year. Stewart called the at tention of the board to new law govern ing the dieting of prisoners. After some discussion it appeared to the board that said law was not applicable to this county, and on motion ot $upr. Wright, duly peconded and carried, that the rate for dieting prisoners be in creased from 75 cents to 85 cents per day and that the sheriff present his account at each board meeting* and have same audited. Sheriff Stewart also stated that 'the present allowance for livery hire was insufficient and on motion It was ordered that the allowance heretofore made for livery, laundry and mending for prisoners of $400 be increased to $500 per annum. The following named persons were selected to serve as grand Jurors for the January Term ofthe Circuit Court and on motion the list was approved and the Clerk ordered to certify same to the Clerk of the Circuit Court. The clerk presented and read a written request of Judge Barnes for the purchase of the necessary Appellate and Supreme Court Reports to make the library for the County Court complete, together with sufficient eases to contain said books, and submitted a proposition of Callaghan A Co. as to the cost thereof, same being as follows: To the Chairman and Members of the Board of Supervisors of McHenry County, Illinois: Gentlemen:--Your County Court room is greatly in need of the oomplete stts of the Illinois Supreme Court Reports, and the Illinois Appellate Court Reports. The County Court Library only lacks a few volumes of the first mentioned reports t<^ make that set complete to date, and it only lacks the first 181 volumes of the Appellate Court Reports to also make that set complete. Your clerk and myself have obtained the figures showing the cost to the county to complete these two sets of reports, which is only the sum of $431.70, as can be seen by the proposition now on file with your clerk. The room also would need a few additional cases to hold the new volumes if purchased, and in order to help along thtrwork of your County Court.
