Tried It on the Wrong Fellow A couple of strangers, traveling in a Ford touring car, tried to get away with the old gag of having a large bill changed in McHenry on Tuesday afternoon of this week. As far as is known their first attempt to spring the "get-rich-quick" trick occurred at the ice cream parlor of Chas. Unti, where they made their appearance about four o'clock in the afternoon. They called for a couple of cigars and one of the two handed Mr. Unti a $20 bill. While the pro prietor of the store wits making the change for the twenty one of the two suddenly remembered that he had change to pay for the cigars, and pulling same from his pocket he asked for the return of the $20.00. The proprietor saw the "joke" imme d iately and watehed his change close enough that the visitors failed their game. After leaving the store Mr. Unti thought it a shame to allow the men to^eave town with out being told thilt the people are wise to their game, so he called up Alderman Knox, who in turn stopped the pair just as they were about to cross the Fox river bridge. They denied being in the game of which they were accused and after making all sorts of excuses and apologies they were allowed to go on their way No sooner had the pair passed out of view before Mr. Gans, proprietor of the Riverside hotel, came along and told that they had attempted the same sort of a trick on him, but it happened that F. Extraordinary Musk Those who attended the 10:16 o'clock mass at St. Mary's church here last Sunday morning were treated to some exceptionally fine music by Misses Edna and Louise Gansel of Chicago, who are spending a short vacation at, Pistakee Bay. The formed young lady is an exceptionally fine violinist, while her sister is a singer of considerable note. The violin used by Miss Gansel is valued at fl,000. Needless to say that the music was enjoyed. These young ladies are employed at the Hotel LaSalle, Chicago, where their efforts have pleased thousands during the time that they have been en gaged at this popular hostelry. They may make a second appearance at St. Mary's at the late mass next. Sunday. Chicken feed at M. M. A Jolly Gathering One of the jolliest out-door parties of the summer season took place at McCollum's lake on Tuesday evening of this week, when a crowd of young folks "jitneyed" to that pleasant point to spend the evening. A dance pavilion, which previously had been especially prepared and decorated with jack-o'-lanterns for the occasion, afforded dancing for the young people, which together with house and lawn gttmes and a "weenie roast" made up an evening of profound pleasure. Those who made up the merry gathering were. The two young men ^rrived only recently from overseas service and, while neither of them saw service at the front, they have seen enough of the training and hard work of army life to make them feel happy to be home once more. Both served as engineers and were with the 811th.
